Passive investing has now dovetailed with AI. Nearly all capital is being managed in one of three ways: by an ETF, by a fund manager hugging an index, or by an AI system trained to imitate both. Nobody is rolling up their sleeves and actually looking anymore. That leaves an extraordinary opportunity in mid-caps, small-caps and underrepresented sectors for anyone willing to use their brain for 45 minutes. Independent thought is now an arbitrage. This is the easiest time in history to outperform. Love, Burrito

Plenty of people said Chris Wright’s numbers were fiction. We scored 24 administration flow claims against our independent, dark-adjusted series. 18 matched, aligned, or cleared the floor that was stated. 2 came in below. 2 are timing gaps. 2 are data gaps — we don’t force a verdict there. #OOTT #Oil @SecretaryWright

lol. Losers
Canada just spent half a billion dollars poaching 64 academics, three-quarters of them from the U.S., and then CTV put the most revealing quote on TV Talia Bettcher (trans philosophy / gender studies) is leaving Cal State LA for a taxpayer-funded chair at Waterloo because, in her words, it “felt unsafe for me even in Los Angeles given the increase in anti trans sentiment.” That’s not a materials scientist fleeing grant cuts. That’s an identity-politics scholar being paid by Ottawa to relocate over a political climate she dislikes The program is sold as “doubling down on science.” Some recruits are doing storms, solvents, and health. Fine. Mixing those with “trans community resilience” chairs and equity-framed geography shows the real filter: Canada is importing people who share the government’s moral posture, then calling it “talent strategy.” Minister Joly said they saw an “opportunity to seize.” Opportunity for what—research output, or a subsidized ideological transfer? If the U.S. is cutting unstable grants, compete on labs and results. Don’t write eight-year, million-a-year cheques so someone can feel safer doing gender theory north of the border Taxpayers should ask how many of these 64 chairs would exist if the selection criterion were “what actually scales Canada’s productivity,” not “who is fleeing the culture war.” @melaniejoly

More people died in France this year from not having air conditioning (7,300) than American deaths from mass shootings in all of recorded U.S. history (1,741).😬
France has recorded over 7,300 excess deaths during heatwaves this year, with a record 52 days of hot spells since mid-June, according to AFP. Separately, nearly 10,000 people across Germany have died so far this year due to heat-related causes, according to a German institute.

Sincerely hope this fails. There won’t be any way to know long-term impacts as it surely won’t be tested long enough. But you’ll have to take it to stay competitive once it goes mainstream.

Stop comparing Leopold Aschenbrenner to Bill Hwang... Hwang is the GOAT of degenerates and Leopold is a sheep compared to him Did you know that Hwang turned $200M to $36B and it was ALL personal capital? This guy literally led prayer circles in the conference room before trading days started He had $160B stock exposure on just $36B of capital His blowup happened in two days and he literally caused the collapse of one of the most prestigious investment banks Banks lost a total of $10B combined because of his collapse Leopold is nothing compared to Bill

Some impressive analyst work from this account!
HORMUZ | During past 4 days, visible transits avg at 0.9mbd OUTBOUND / 2.7mbd INBOUND. Tankers still hop in and out dark and I remain convinced that US convoys continue and actual flow shall be closer to 3-5 mbd daily. Vessel list in comments.

btw anthropic's internal document on this literally said "we don't want it to be known that we are working on this.” it was called project panama. here's exactly what happened: 1: anthropic concluded that books were the cheapest way to build a world-class model because they gave claude curated facts, structured arguments, compelling stories, and writing “an editor would approve of.” 2: once anthropic decided it needed books at enormous scale, its first solution was piracy. it downloaded 7m+ books from online libraries including libgen. the judge later wrote that although anthropic had legal ways to buy them, it chose piracy to avoid what dario amodei called the “legal/practice/business slog.” 3: that piracy created a massive legal risk. so in february 2024, anthropic hired tom turvey, the former head of partnerships for google books, to find a legally safer way of obtaining “all the books in the world.” 4: turvey first contacted major publishers about licensing their catalogs. those attempts didn’t produce agreements, so anthropic chose a route that required no publisher permission: buying millions of physical books through distributors and used-book retailers. 5: within about a year, anthropic spent tens of millions acquiring and scanning millions of books, including many rare and 1/1 titles. one vendor proposal targeted 500,000 to 2 million books in six months. 6: to scan that many books within months, the vendors physically dismantled them. a hydraulic cutter removed each spine. the pages were trimmed to size, fed as loose sheets through high-speed industrial scanners, and converted into searchable PDFs. the paper remains were then sent for recycling. 7: these PDFs were fed into claude as training data. the complete collection became a private, searchable anthropic library that the company planned to “store forever.” the scans aren’t available to the public and were never open-sourced.
🦔AI companies are bulk-buying rare books, scanning them through high-speed machines that cut the spines off, and shredding the originals. A service called ISBNdb facilitates orders of up to a million books and keeps buyers anonymous. Pre-2022 books are premium because they're free of AI-generated text. A federal judge ruled the practice is fair use because eliminating the original means only one copy exists at a time. Anthropic hired the former head of Google Books partnerships to obtain "all the books in the world." My Take This got to me. A bookseller told 404 Media that rare books with almost no surviving copies are being fed into this pipeline. Books that survived wars, fires, and centuries of handling are being shredded so an AI can learn to write a better marketing email. ISBNdb's website literally says "'AI company destroys two million books' is not a headline that generates sympathy," and they still built an entire business around making it happen quietly. They offer NDAs as a feature. They coach clients to call it "digital preservation." I've covered AI companies scraping the internet, torrenting libraries, and stealing music. This is worse because it's irreversible. You can re-upload a website. You can reprint a bestseller. You can't replace the last three copies of an 18th-century botanical text once someone shreds them for training data. And the judge said it's legal. So it's going to accelerate. "We shred rare books and offer NDAs so nobody finds out" is a legitimate business model in 2026. What a timeline. Hedgie🤗

I’ve heard of patients who stopped being gay and gender dysphoric after doing a detox from parasites, other pathogens and toxins. This post suggests it’s the parasites hijacking the brain. Since homosexuality is an evolutionary dead end there must be some other evolutionary pressure driving it: i.e. an intestinal parasite found in most gay men and barely any straight men. The parasite then tends to make them gay and hypersexual in order to spread itself among this cohort. Though nowadays it could presumably also make the small percentage of straight men who carry it hyper interested in anal sex with women. I wonder if we’ll ever get any research into this? If it were proven I suspect many people would be violently opposed to risking the loss of their sense of self by killing off their parasite even if it were shown to be otherwise harmful. It is clear that physical toxins and pathogens as well as lack of nutrients like vitamin D and B12 can alter our personalities. Just missing a meal can change the way you behave especially if you’re insulin resistant. It’s been well documented that common over the counter painkillers reduce empathy and there are many other drugs that can affect people’s personalities dramatically. But there is something deeper, the very heart of your being that lies beyond these superficialities. Scrape them away and you will find that your deepest self loves what is good, which is another way of saying that which is beneficial for human flourishing over the longest time horizon - both in this world and the next.
Is this the final red pill on homosexuality?
