Did you know venom could actually be used to heal or treat disease? 🐍 The museum’s @anemonegoddess, went overseas to find out the latest in venom bio-application development as a part of her Winston Churchill Fellowship.

📣We need to retain talented postdocs in academia. Let @NIH know how we do that. Salary is one of the issues… grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/…
Thanks for the leading with new policies @leslievosshall @HHMINEWS
We can all influence the @NIH!
They need to hear from scientists on the topic of postdoc salaries - and yes lab budgets would need to be adjusted to avoid an unfunded mandate
They are collecting input - deadline is tomorrow April 14, 2023 @NIH grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/…

A fantastic resource has recently been published detailing the neurotoxins found in viper/colubrid snake venoms. Neurotoxins are typically associated with elapid snake venoms so really interesting to see all the work done in this area! #snakebite #snake mdpi.com/1422-0067/24/3/2919

How AlphaFold2.3 gave us an answer that 2.2 did not: Tetramer of human Protein Phosphatase 2A (light orange)+scaffold subunit (green)+substrate-determining subunit B55alpha (steel)+FAM122A (orange)- a substrate-like inhibitor. Fun collab with @GranaX_Lab biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Wow, #AlphaFold 2.3 is producing great results on protein complexes that did not work in 2.1 or 2.2. Previously we would get proteins or peptides not bound at all, or poor iPTM scores & inconsistent results from models 1-5. Now on several systems we get results that make sense.
Great #MarchMadness take @MBL… I’m betting on the hummingbird bobtail squid (Euprymna berryi) for the win!! I’m biased because it’s the one with #venom! 🦑 #MBLMarchMadness @grcvenom
The MBL is committed to expanding the range of organisms used as biological models and create the next generation of genetically tractable research organisms.
The four contests in the #MBLMarchMadness New Research Organisms Division represent some of these biological models.
