O-Line Uncovered Step Drill - The uncovered step is a technique used by offensive linemen that is essentially based on the traditional bucket step. - This specific footwork is a fundamental component used to successfully execute double-team blocks. - While the covered offensive lineman takes a two-step approach, the uncovered lineman must execute a short bucket step followed by a second step aimed directly up the defender's crotch. - During the execution of the block, linemen are coached to keep their eyes on the defender's thigh to read their movement. - When working a double team to the second level, linemen should drive the defensive lineman toward the linebacker and only disengage to climb when the linebacker is within an arm's length. - Coaches should emphasize a heavy second step to generate movement and maintain a low pad level to effectively drive defenders off the line of scrimmage.
