It’s not always correct to neglect higher order terms. Tweets don't represent my employer. I follow a lot of people I dislike (not you though).

Underappreciated cause of lib-left fighting on here is that the 80th percentile MAGA member is still dumb as a bag of rocks and the modal conversation with them is like dragging your face across cement. Very rare to find a lib as useless to talk to as the average rightoid

You don't understand we have to watch 300 episodes of 90s Star Trek so you can appreciate the payoff of this two minute monologue in season 6 of DS9

This is what makes Family the best episode of TNG, incidentally. Picard is the best a human can be, he’s not arrogant when he acknowledges that, but that’s not the same thing as all-powerful. He was still ultimately able to be used as just a tool by another.
Something I've been having trouble articulating is that Picard is an ideal masculine figure. He is wise and kind and understanding but when push comes to shove he makes it clear that he will engage in violence and he's gonna be fuckin good at it

It might be the only real work of tv I’ve ever seen that gets into what being raped is like (well, I imagine) for a normal, confident man.

You need to see what show he’s talking about

Imagine someone would do a show like this today... Sadly they don't make shows like this anymore...

You can love the actual country you live in without self identifying as a “patriot”, which carries specific political connotations in the US for instance. You don’t love your country if you hate half its citizenry and want them purged or subjugated.

MAGA when an official government account debases the country yet again
Fake & Gay! Moussa Diawara, the Malian national featured in this shockingly poorly researched @60Minutes report, now faces allegations of immigration FRAUD after his asylum application surfaced, revealing that he claimed to be a HOMOSEXUAL man who feared persecution in Mali. Read more ⬇️

This is a great point, the books really should have had multiple scenes where this is clearly addressed.

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

Conway’s Game of Life has gliders that travel at 45° and spaceships that move horizontally or vertically. Patterns that travel at other angles are called “oblique spaceships.” By extending rule-switching cellular automata, I’ve discovered a large number of new oblique spaceship structures - with diverse shapes and directions, from nearly horizontal to almost 45°. The nine examples in this video are just a small selection. Explore the discoveries, including motions that may not have been reported before, through interactive demos:

Fundamentally I see MAGA people and other such reactionaries the samea way I do .addicts, compulsive criminals, etc-- your society is going to have *some* number of them, determined in part by how you structure your society, and you do have to figure out how to manage that fact.

To sharpen students’ awareness of the mathematical fine print in quantum theory, I took these two assumptions, both commonly found in quantum mechanics textbooks, and used them to show in just two lines that 1 = 0. It is fun to see how genuinely puzzled students are by this—and how few people spot the problem. It makes for an illuminating teaching moment.
