okay SO. two things can be true at the same time: using ai to help write your fic is weird (especially untagged and/or with an anti-ai message in the notes) AND this rise in ai fics is 100% related to the consumerist mindset people have around fanworks. and both of these matter.

everyone getting real pressed about the rising use of AI in fandom but no one is talking about the reason this is becoming so prevalent (comodification of fan spaces, celebrification of authors and artists, hivemind attitudes, readers demanding & expecting more from authors etc.)
i feel like some 70% of ao3 authors are using genai atp lol. i'll be reading a fic and one chapter is fine and the next will be clearly (to me) chatgpt. ppl say "idgi no one is making you write fic" but i can tell you that when your writing is getting engagement the high is crazy
as the doc says, this only uncovers a small portion of the problem. fandom has become a consumerist and clout space, and it's not gonna change.
i admire op's restraint in saying these writers are people b/c i agree this is a larger social issue than just fandom
