I have the type of autism where I didn't have a rebellious teenage phase. I didn't have a party phase. I didn't have a dating phase. I spent most of my teenage years feeling out of place and trying to figure out why everyone else seemed so far ahead of me.

My boyfriend thinks the big problem with modern dating is that men used to merely have to demonstrate solid long-term potential to be considered. Now, a guy can't get his foot in the door without having short-term dating skills. He's not complaining, mind you. He purposely developed those short-term dating skills & they worked on me 😂 But he has a great point: there are men who are AMAZING long-term options who aren't even noticed by women because they never developed the traits that make a woman notice them immediately!

I lost years and years due to learned helplessness, one day as a slightly better well adjusted adult I realized. 1.) everything the therapists said was true, it is a science &2.) I had to admit I was in my own way for long periods of time, and I had to cope with being wrong now
