Flooding continues to threaten areas of Far West Texas and the Panhandle regions.
Never drive through flooded roadways. Just a few inches of water can cause injuries and vehicle damage.

We’re helping our friends at the @univmiami @fcifightscancer spread the word about a very specific research study focused on firefighters who have been diagnosed with colorectal or related cancers and received chemotherapy as part of their treatment.
The study began after a University of Miami oncologist observed that firefighters in his practice who received chemotherapy for colorectal cancer appeared more likely to experience certain chemotherapy-related side effects. Researchers now want to determine whether this was limited to those individual cases or may represent a broader issue among firefighters—information that could ultimately help inform how firefighters with these cancers are treated.
🎯 The goal is to enroll 50 firefighters, but only 14 have enrolled so far.
If you meet the criteria—or know a firefighter who may—please consider participating or sharing this information with them. Even if this study doesn’t apply to you personally, sharing it could help it reach a firefighter who qualifies.

🚒 Answer the Call. Join the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer.
Every firefighter has a role to play in helping us better understand and reduce cancer in the fire service.
The National Firefighter Registry (NFR) for Cancer, administered by CDC/NIOSH, is open to ALL U.S. firefighters — career or volunteer, active or retired, with or without a cancer diagnosis. (CDC)
🔥 Why sign up? Your participation can help researchers:
✅ Better understand the connection between firefighting and cancer
✅ Identify occupational cancer risk factors
✅ Improve cancer prevention efforts
✅ Help protect current and future generations of firefighters
You do NOT need to have cancer to participate. In fact, participation from firefighters both with and without a cancer diagnosis is critical to the research. (CDC)
It only takes about 5–10 minutes to get started, and you can save your progress and come back to finish the full questionnaire later. (CDC)
📲 Join the NFR today:

Your service has already made a difference. Your participation in the NFR can help make a difference for the firefighters who come after you.

Say it isn't so. Oh, Dolly. What a life! You worked to leave the world a better place. Your loss hits hard. RIP.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we say goodbye to a true country music icon, Opry member Dolly Parton.
There is no doubt Dolly’s mark on the world, and on us here at the Grand Ole Opry, will be deeply felt for generations to come. She taught us to always lead with kindness, generosity, and compassion. May her legacy live on through her songs, the lives she touched, and the countless artists she inspired. There will never, ever be another one like her.
We will always love you, Dolly. 🤍

This survey will help better understand the human factors in LODDs. If you have a few minutes, we encourage firefighters to take it.
Our friends at @NIOSH National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health want to hear directly from the fire service.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is conducting a survey to better understand the human factors involved in firefighter line-of-duty deaths (LODDs) and serious injury investigations. The information gathered will help strengthen future investigations and develop better tools and recommendations that can help prevent similar tragedies.
👨🚒 NIOSH is looking for input from:
• Chief Officers
• Company Officers
• Firefighters
• Especially those who have served as Safety Officers
⏱️ The survey takes about 15–20 minutes to complete.
🔒 Responses are confidential, voluntary, and no personal or department-identifying information is collected.
📅 The survey is open until January 2027.
Every firefighter’s experience matters. By taking a few minutes to participate and sharing this survey with others in your department, you’re helping improve firefighter safety for generations to come.
Take the survey here:

These “kids” get it.
We’re quick to blame the younger generation for the volunteer fire service’s problems.
But maybe we should look at leadership.
“The problem does not lie within those young members who are stepping forward to serve, but rather with those of us leading them.”
Teach the craft. Explain the why. Share the history.
They’re eager to learn.
