Excited to present this work on bacterial polyploidy from my previous postdoc!
Want to know about a genetic diversity strategy that is like having backup codes to unlock the perfect resistance combo? Read all about it (1/4) biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
We used cell wall-deficient L-forms to understand if multiple chromosome copies in a cell provide any advantage. Could bacterial heterozygosity provide a similar adaptive benefit as multicopy plasmids, increasing the evolutionary success of these microbial survivors? (3/4)

Ever wondered what happened when gut microbes don't get any food? Check out our new preprint on long-term fasting and remodeling of gut microbial and host metabolism with @Robin_Mesnage and many other great collaborators (biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…)!
So so happy to see @KapteijnRenee proudly holding her thesis 🥰. She is a meticulous and creative scientist with an eye for detail. I had an amazing time working with her in Leiden. Moreover she is a gem of a person, brings people together & very thoughtful as well! Hire her 🫶🏼
Yeahhh my PhD thesis is finally here!!😁On to the next chapter: I am looking for a microbiology Post-Doc or research position in industry in The Netherlands! Please message me for more information or if you know an interesting job position! Sharing is appreciated! #OpenToWork

ALT I am (proudly) showing my PhD thesis entitled 'Mechanisms and consequences of horizontal gene transfer in cell wall-deficient cells of Kitasatospora viridifaciens'. The thesis cover is white with cobalt blue L-forms drawn with aquarel paint. I am wearing a black and white shirt with flowers and glasses. In my other hand I hold a pile of thesis copies, ready to be handed to my colleagues.

Great final talk by Samir Giri @iSamirgiri from @TypasLab @embl on “Impact of non-antibiotic treatment on antimicrobial resistance of human gut bacteria”. Systematic mapping reveals many examples of XR and CS between human-targeted drugs and antibiotics in human gut microbiota.
Great story and neatly explained thread 👌🏼 .... Congratulations to everyone involved!
1/n 📢 Preprint alert 📢
This one is all about how Myxococcus xanthus, a predatory bacterium, can influence the frequency of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in soil communities.

Chains that we use can be gold or pearls but bacteria make their own, in this case the Formosa sp. makes chains of vesicles! They first make tubes that pearl into connected vesicles. These vesicles have proteins and enzymes on the surface which help them grow.#inktober2023day21

It’s the bacterial SPICE girls! They are famous for deception- they appear to be sensitive to many antibiotics but can quickly develop resistance once exposed to the antibiotics! If you want their future (resistant) you better forget their past (sensitive) 😂 #inktober2023day12
