🏢 Datacenter IP: belongs to a hosting company. Fast and cheap, and easy for websites to recognize.
🏠 Residential IP: belongs to a home internet provider. Looks like a normal visitor.

🌍 Before a website shows you anything, it reads your IP address.
That one number decides the language, the currency, the prices, which articles you can read, which search results you get and whether you see a captcha.

🌍 Shifter Web Proxy is now available in 120 countries, with no more limits.
We removed the time limit and the traffic limit. Try it free: shifterx.io/web-proxy
⏱️ No more session timer and no more daily traffic allowance. Open a session and browse as long as you need. Still no signup, no email, no ads, nothing to install.
🏠 Every session runs through a real residential IP in the country you pick, so sites see a normal home connection there, not a data center.
66 new countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Hong Kong, Qatar, Kenya and Costa Rica. Each one has its own page.
Check prices, search results, news and geo-targeted ads the way locals see them.
🤖 Your AI agent works in the demo, then hits a captcha in production.
Agents on datacenter IPs get stopped by the same anti-bot systems as scrapers. Route each tool call through a residential IP and the agent sees the real page.

🛑 Your scraper keeps getting blocked? It is usually one of these 5 things.
1. Datacenter IPs → use residential or ISP IPs
2. No IP rotation → rotate per request, sticky for login flows
3. Bad or missing headers → send a full browser header set
4. Requests too fast → add jitter, back off on errors
5. No JS rendering → use a headless browser for JS pages

🚀 We just launched Shifter Web Proxy, a free web proxy on residential IPs in 54 countries.

No signup, no ads, nothing to install. Pick a country and see any site the way locals see it.
Most free proxies run on datacenter IPs. In our test of 17, CroxyProxy, ProxySite, Proxyium, KProxy and Hidester all did, which is why they hit captchas and blocks.
🏠 Ours runs on real home IPs, so websites see a normal local visitor, not a server.

Why live IPs and not pool size?
Advertised pool sizes count everything a network sees in a month. We counted what actually answers while you crawl.
More live IPs means fewer requests per address, fewer blocks and less reuse.
Same test for every provider: 250,000 plain-HTTP requests through each rotating residential gateway, a fresh connection per request, 1,000 concurrency, 10 second timeout, one network at a time from the same server.
Live US IPs, top 5:
Shifter 212,212
Webshare 150,512
Oxylabs 140,811
Proxy-Seller 139,933
Infatica 139,334
41% more than the next network on the list.
We re-ran our residential proxy benchmark this week.
Shifter returned 212,212 live US IPs in 250,000 requests.
That is the largest live US pool of the 16 networks we have measured, more than Oxylabs and Bright Data, at a fraction of the cost.
