People take so many photos and videos, and many of them are for functional purposes - scheduling an event, digitizing a physical letter, or even learning about something interesting you saw. We want to help you complete those quick actions on a photo or screenshot you’ve taken easily within @GooglePhotos. Most people think of Ask Photos for complex search journeys (it’s certainly helpful with the 144,611 photos and videos I have backed up), but DYK you can also use it while viewing a photo to do even more? Here’s how. Open any image in your gallery and tap the Ask button (available in the US) to get things done. Here are a few things I love to use it for! 🖼️ Snapping a picture of a work of art in a museum to learn more about the piece and asking follow up questions to go even deeper on the artist and their other works. 🥗 Identifying delicious new salads (my favorite!) and their ingredients from a photo so I can recreate them at home. 📋 Transcribing photos of handwritten recipes and converting them into grocery lists or step-by-step instructions. 🫰 Generating detailed item summaries from photos of household goods for listing them online marketplaces. 📷 Using the "Related photos" chip or ask to "find more photos like this" to surface connected memories with a similar vibe.

I’ve heard from many of you that while AI can make many images better, you also want to know when it’s been applied. That’s why we developed SynthID here at @Google, an invisible watermarking technology that embeds a digital watermark directly into AI-generated media (such as images, video, audio, and text). This marker is imperceptible to humans but detectable by special tools, allowing content to be identified as AI-generated even after modifications like cropping, filtering, or re-saving. And now the SynthID Detector is now available to more people! Images created or edited with AI in @googlephotos include SynthID and this tool makes it easy to quickly upload those images and detect it. You can also check if an image was edited or created with AI right in @googlephotos by swiping up when viewing a photo and scrolling down to the "How this was made" section of the info panel. blog.google/innovation-and-a…
