Last week, the NPA returned to HM Treasury to discuss the vital role of community pharmacy in delivering the ambitions of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan.
We highlighted the sector’s potential to:
- Support the shift from treatment to prevention
- Deliver more care in community settings
- Enhance digital access to services
- Play a greater role in prescription management
These contributions offer clear value for patients, the NHS, and the taxpayer — but can only be realised with a financially sustainable pharmacy network.
We reiterated concerns over historic underfunding, supported by NHS England’s economic analysis showing a £2bn shortfall, and emphasised the need for investment to unlock the sector’s full clinical potential.
Further independent economic research will follow in the weeks ahead to strengthen the case for investment.
