Very sorry to hear that James Lindesay-Bethune, 16th Earl of Lindsay, died on October 9, 2026. Obituaries below.
Wood Land Dale is a solo exhibition of paintings by Dan Donovan. I have known Dan for almost 20 years so it was great to catch up with him today at The Drawing Room Gallery in Nottingham where his work is on display until 7th November.

First real test for the pitch leading into game day since the summer, happy with how it performed and glad there’s not too much damage to report.
Around 50mm of rain fell during the days leading up to the game and a further 10mm on MD.
Three points is always nice as well 🧡🌧️

Raise and set the sails for leaving the docks at Dundee city centre to sail away down the estuary of the Tay, out to the North Sea, postcard used in 1904. This dock infilled in the 60’s for roads for Tay Bridge.

I first fell for Slow Horses because it was espionage like I’d never seen before. A brilliant dark comedy, with subversion buried so deep it’d always sneak up on you.
Add to that, Gary Oldman’s gloriously disheveled Jackson Lamb sparring with the cold, unflappable Diana Taverner! Killer combo.
But only this season could I put my finger on why Slow Horses lands so hard.
Anyone can die. At any moment. And you won't see it coming.
Most shows have a deal with the audience. They let you know who's expendable and who isn't.
The leads, the charming ensemble, the likeable ones. They take risks, they get hurt, but they make it.
Slow Horses pulls that rug right from under you. You only realise someone's gone after the scene lands like a punch to the gut. And you sit there, staring.
Beneath the humor and absurdity, it delivers the direct experience of being a spy.
Not war-room talk, but how close death walks beside every one of them. One misstep, one blink, and it's over.
Once you realise this, the opening song, "Strange Game," hits different:
"You made one mistake, you got burned at the stake. You're finished, you're foolish, you failed."
What a show. 🖤

‘Good things,’ wrote Roger Scruton ‘are easily destroyed, but not easily created.’ He had in mind the ‘collective assets’ of ‘peace, freedom, law, civility, public spirit and the security of property’ but he might equally have been writing about architecture.

Arriving into St Pancras does make you a bit proud.
Eurostar train to the underground in about 5 minutes and unlike arriving into many airports the elegant building, bustle of the station and attractive public realm must give a great first impression of Britain.
Remembering Lord Harris of High Cross, founding director of @iealondon following its launch in 1955, and chairman of Forest from 1987 to 2006, who died, aged 81, 20 years ago this week. taking-liberties.uk/home/202…

Do smokers feel demonised? I’ll be discussing this and the rise of vaping on BBC Radio Devon at 10.20.
