The most annoying problem for Zero's launch was what bug tracker to use.
GitHub is way too slow, and Linear doesn't have public bugs or permissions – both required for OSS projects.
This was driving me nuts, until I realized the only possible solution… ⏩

🤯New in 5.19: TypedSQL allows you to write fully type-safe raw SQL.
You now have the best of both worlds: the type safety of Prisma ORM and the flexibility to write your own .sql files.

Just got off stage* at @localfirstconf where I shared Zero:
zerosync.dev/
The web today is facing a complexity crisis. It's way too hard to build a halfway decent web app and near impossible to build a good one.
Sync engines solve this in theory, but current sync engines (including ours!) aren't general enough for the breadth of apps built on the web.
Zero introduces "hybrid queries" – queries that start locally and fall back to the server automatically – to make sync genuinely easy, and scalable enough to handle all kinds of apps.
It's how we plan to bring the benefits of sync to the mainstream, and improve the average quality of apps on the web.
Learn a bit more and sign up for early access at zerosync.dev.

* OK technically I had a margarita first – I may or may not be posting this from a bar.
Looking forward to trying Zero out. Been building app with @replicache and such a joy to work with.

🚀 Amazon EventBridge now supports Customer Managed Keys (CMK) for Event Buses 🚀. This has been a long-standing ask from customers, especially in FinServ and Healthcare. aws.amazon.com/about-aws/wha…
My hunch is most saas cornered themselves from the day 1 when they don't design for this :skin-tone-3: mullti-workspace/tenant/org access. It's PITA or next to impossible to migrate to it if you start with everything tied to a user/account.
so many replies telling me this is wrong or impossible - you engineers can't do shit without a product manager can you
let me write out user stories for you children:
1. i am an indiehacker building 31 projects per year and intend to use your product's free tier and never pay anything
i have one email [email protected] - i want to log into your service with it and create multiple workspaces for each of my projects
they should be totally separated but i should be able to easily switch between them
2. i work for Enterprise Co where i'm treated like a child so i must follow corporate policy and only login with [email protected] and access my company's workspace.
however i also have 1 side project that i'll never ship but serves as a beacon of hope that i'll one day escape corporate hell and it prevents me from ending it all
i need to be able to simultaneously be logged into [email protected] so i can switch to my personal project after my 9-5 is up
3. i am a consultant and i work for many companies at the same time - most of them issue me a company email but some of them don't want to spend an additional $5 per month on me so i have to use my personal
i need to be able to be logged into all of these emails and switch across what workspaces they have access to
PLEASE support all of these - your specific product maybe needs to deviate (probably not) but it's a good default to aim for
This article blog.bullettrain.co/teams-sh… from @andrewculver .Is a must read for any eng building a saas. Baked it on day one and you can easily support everything Dax is talking about from day 1.
Spot on. This is next gen of self-hosting: deploy to your cloud. Imagine one time pricing of once.com but you get a IaC app that spin up whole app using manage services in your aws account! Full control but managed.
with every dhh take it’s easy to focus on why he’s obviously wrong
but there’s always something more thought provoking that’s worth thinking about
yes most self hosting most existing software is stupid - you don’t want to randomly be dealing with disk space running out for your team’s chat app and lose a day
but in a world where we have managed, autoscaling, stateless infra what does it look like to optimize software for ease of self hosting?
and what kind of software is this worth doing with?
take a look at counterscale - self hosted web analytics that deploys to your cloudflare account
it’s designed to be self hosted, everything it uses has no ops overhead
this is wildly different than managing traditional software (ironically like campfire - deploying it to hetzner makes little sense) which requires a good amount of babysitting
it’s still more work than signing up for a hosted product but you can see how we can close the gap by figuring out the rough edges
it’s early but this is a bet i’ve had for a while that we’ll see more and more of this

New Post!
AWS Lambda can pre-warm your functions to reduce the number of cold starts, even when used on-demand!
This post defines Proactive Initialization, compares benchmarks from multiple runtimes/workloads, and shows you how to measure this in your own functions!
Link 👇

ALT Excerpt from the new Documentation:https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/troubleshooting-invocation.html#troubleshooting-invocation-initialization-gap "For functions using unreserved (on-demand) concurrency, Lambda occasionally pre-initializes execution environments to reduce the number of cold start invocations. For example, Lambda might initialize a new execution environment to replace an execution environment that is about to be shut down."

Yay, Lambda now automatically detects infinite recursions and stops them! 🎊
This should put a stop to those billing horrors you hear about every now and then "I got a big AWS bill after my Lambda function got into an infinite loop!"
