'Feedback: Improve the Learner, Not the Work'
"... teachers are mired in attempting to help pupils improve their current work, but it doesn’t translate to their future tasks, so it does not improve the learner...”

17months later- and she’s finally found it herself.
Who would have thought that this would be the book that would excite my now 10 yr old. 🤷🏼♀️
I’ve had to ask her twice to stop reading as we were heading out.
Dominic Sandbrook- thank you for writing this book!
@PenguinBooks
Book suggestions desperately needed please. My 8 yr old daughter does not read for pleasure, in fact “hates it”😢. She has yet to find the book that will grab her. I now need some recommendations please… that will overcome “there are too many words”.

All this talk about the variety of Qs and topics that involve MR remind me of this series of Qs I made for year 11 a few years back. Some they found easy. Some they struggled with #mathsconf33

Ho hum. We end the week with the government having served up, er, Advanced BS.
Have a good weekend, everyone.

Last night, the Government announced that school funding will only rise by 1.9% per pupil in April, down from 2.7% promised in July. This is a cut of £370m - £55,000 for average secondary & £12,000 for average primary.
Schools cannot take any more cuts.
Please listen to my message & share with colleagues

It's not about the chess. I like chess and can see the benefits. It's about ignoring everything that's actually happening in schools.
Teaching staff.
Support staff.
Books.
Resources.
Extra release time for subject leads.
Support for SEND children.
That's what we really need.
I need someone to explain to me why the addition column has the “carry” written to the top left of the number. It’s now caused a whole lot of confusion with the subtraction exchange for my daughter. I can’t see why they would do this?

Results for #alevels2023 are out today.
As expected, grades are down. But more so in some subjects than others.
Those with the largest fall in top grades are music and drama, and the smallest are maths and chemistry.

Some lovely ideas here, turning "boring" tasks into something a bit more engaging and interesting
@haven At some point I would relish the opportunity to actually speak to someone about my reserved van not being honoured for this Monday. Unfortunately spending over 2 hrs waiting for a call to be answered is unacceptable.
Appalling customer service.
@haven and now the customer service number says that the offices are now closed. Call again tomorrow at 9am. What is going on? Dreadful service .

Some people have asked for national #MTC results. DfE probably won’t publish til autumn so we pulled some data from Insight. Based on results of 40,000 pupils:
