We are beyond excited to share that our 2022 West Africa Mammal Fellowship (WAMF) Fellow, Aicha Gomeh-Djame, has discovered two new bat species in Cameroon!
It’s been published in the ZooKeys journal, describing the Lobéké butterfly bat (named after the Lobéké National Park where the individuals were spotted) and the Baka butterfly bat (named in honor of the Baka people of Cameroon who live within and around the park).
It’s #WorldRangerDay !
We celebrate the incredible rangers who are working with us to protect threatened small mammal species, in collaboration with the National Park Service @NigeriaParks, across protected areas in Nigeria.
Thank you, Rangers, for all that you do.
They’re monitoring biodiversity and supporting our local Forest Guardian teams in preventing wildfires.
Park Rangers play a vital role in conservation, and they work really hard to ensure that these protected areas stay safe.

Celebrating the #InternationalDayoftheTropics today because the #Tropics deserve more than just 24 hours of our attention!
From bats to pangolins, the tropics supports the most #biodiversity.
Though threatened by climate change amongst others, it remains the most underequipped to face it.
As we reflect on the day, we are reminded of the urgency to protect the tropics and the #wildlife it supports.
