Natural history GCSE finally gets go-ahead 💚💚💚
Landmark qualification to be made available in schools years after its initial target start date, with content to be decided after a 12-week consultation
Students WILL be able to take a new natural history GCSE qualification as part of curriculum reforms, the government has confirmed.
It is proposed that natural history GCSE students will spend a minimum of 20 hours learning outdoors, exploring “real habitats, from urban parks to coastal salt marshes”. The DfE said that a “deep understanding” of UK habitats and wildlife is “at the heart” of the new qualification.

Male hop flowers, twining through #Oxford canal hedgerows on their beautiful, clockwise-twisting bines🌿
These climbers are known as bines rather than vines because they climb by simply winding upwards, curving round anything they meet; vines, such as grapes, use tendrils🌿

I do think there should be a public enquiry and steps to prevent the hounding of individuals in political battles.

It has always been vital to back our firefighters.
And now we're seeing escalating risks - they must have what they need.
Charities should not be paying for fire helicopters!
Don't tell us there's no money left - tax the fossil fuel giants who are responsible.
Another heatwave, another escalating wildfire risk.
Firefighters will be out there protecting communities. We need the resources, specialist equipment and national strategy to meet this growing threat.
That’s why @fbunational called for an emergency wildfire summit and we’ll take our first-hand experiences directly to government.

I see I have overlooked Lammas (from Old English hlāfmæsse/ loaf-mass), aka Lammastide, a Christian holiday we celebrate on 1 August.
Originates in loaf (bread) + Mass (Eucharist).
Traditional festival to mark the blessing of the first fruits of harvest, where loaves of bread are brought to church.
Most of us have missed it this year: no early harvest (drought): no new seasonal loaves.🙁🙁

It's a rare to see a hare drinking like this🐇
They normally get their moisture from the vegetation that they eat, or from dew or rain.
But it's been so dry recently I've spotted one at the pond almost every day.
Keep an eye on the pond cam- sometimes you can spot deer drinking here too: robertefuller.com/pages/live…

Not going to deny it, I LOVE this review
The Rest is History episode on Jefferson is simply excquisite. @holland_tom does what so few other historians seem able to do: he celebrates the good in the person; stares directly into the abyss of the bad in them; yet is able, through the most human empathy, to reconcile these in a way which does not take away from either side. He refuses to do cheap moralizing (which is SO COMMON!!!!!) while still not blinding himself to good and bad. A masterclass in how to approach ‘controversial’ historical figures.
