Accdg to google: the doctor strike is about junior doctors (interns and residents like Ma Seunggo) over 10,000 of them who resigned and walked out to protest the former Yoon Suk Yeol administration's plan to increase annual medical school admissions by 2,000 slots. Their Core Grievances include extreme working conditions (such as 36-hour or 80+ hour workweeks), low compensation relative to hours, and high risks of medical litigation/prosecution in critical specialties like pediatrics, emergency medicine, and general surgery. Episode 8 showed us how the specialty doctors/consultants deal with the reduced human power. A lot of these consultants understood where the interns/residents are coming from but they are conflicted with the fact that the strikes are affecting patient care. That is why the Hippocratic Oath is highlighted. Its always difficult to fight for one's rights if it affects the ones you are supposed to care for. I think they will still be dealing with the strike in episode 9. Doing laparoscopy without an assist is too hard. And on top of that Gye Su jeong needs to finish it within 6hours and the surgery involves a mass that seem to be adherent to some major vessels.
