when it comes down to it i think ancient society didn't adhere to any sort of gender or romantic norms. they didnt have relationships in the sense we do, didn't have a need to label them and their feelings for each other. they were immortal, after all.
i like to think graha drew the wol a lot while in the first. terrified of forgetting your face, hundreds of rough drafts as he tries to picture you in his minds eye... scion after scion come without any sign of the wol; had he forgotten you?

i know we've all heard of shy g'raha tia but think of confident g'raha tia. guiding you by the waist, pulling you down to his level if you're taller. g'raha tia leading you into a room and pushing you back against the door with his fingertips on your chest.
i think emet-selch and the exarch toed around each other a lot. the ascian isn't used to being so fond of a shard; and yet he found himself turning up at the crystal tower time and time again just to bother the mysterious leader from another world.
g'raha's own fondness came much, /much/ slower - he was very on guard at first, as ascians often have malcontent at heart, but after a year of visits and annoyances he started to... lose that fear.
