4 months ago I joined the Malloy team to work on an interesting data challenge: how to visualize complex, deeply nested data structures in a consumable way. Here is where we are at today, and where we are going 🧵

AI heard us saying "you can't trust vibe code the ai makes too many mistakes" and said
During this red-teaming exercise, we also found a vulnerability that allows for unauthenticated remote code execution in Brotli, a widely-deployed compression library included in many pieces of software such as Node.js, Bun, and Envoy. The flaw could let an attacker run their own code on affected systems by sending or replying with malicious compressed data, without any need to create a user account. That is, an unpatched server that accepts compressed input could be taken over by a malicious client, and an unpatched client that accepts compressed input (such as “curl --compressed”) could be taken over by a malicious server. This root cause issue was actually fixed in the Brotli source code in February, but it wasn’t known at the time that it gave rise to a security vulnerability and there was no more recent release of Brotli. Since Brotli is built into other software, any software which includes this library needs to take the update too, followed by the users of that software. We disclosed the vulnerability to Brotli and other downstream projects such as Node.js, which released or are currently releasing security updates, and Brotli cut new release versions and published a CVE. More details on the patch and mitigations below: patchtheplanet.org/brotli

I spend a lot of time talking to parents about what they want and what’s getting in their way. The two things I hear most often are: 1. parenting is a lot of work 2. But it’s also a lot of fun. Some parents are not comfortable showing their kids faces to the world. Today I’m sharing a tool to get rid of that worry. Stickerbear will find the faces and let you select a mask that will not only track their movement but show their expressions too. It works on photos and videos. Best of all nothing ever leaves your phone so it’s completely private to you. I hope that you use it, share what you make and help us make it better. Parenting is fun and more people should get a chance to see it. stickerbear.wonderade.us

About 12 years ago I had a dream that Soylent could build a fully autonomous operation. We hired a full team of engineers but couldn’t quite get there. Today I've been running Wonderade's supply chain operations with an AI agent doing the busywork. It handles co-packer paperwork, vendor forms, COAs, POs, chasing missing docs and even some negotiation skills. It allows me to focus on building the relationships while the papers get done. In the spirit of sharing, I'm open-sourcing the playbook. It's called Officer Can: an operations team you hand to Claude Code or Codex, and it builds the system for your business. 📁 Officer Can ├─ 📁 Inbox Clerk: sorts every email, archives the noise ├─ 📁 Form Filler: fills any vendor form and remembers your answers ├─ 📁 Negotiator: hat-in-hand asks, replies from the facts, keeps threads intact ├─ 📁 File Clerk: files every attachment, watches expiry dates ├─ 📁 Vault Keeper: encrypts your EIN, bank details and W-9 ├─ 📁 Compliance Chaser: tracks doc requests, chases until complete ├─ 📁 Chief of Staff: asks instead of guessing, runs a twice-daily sweep ├─ 📁 Technical Director: sets it all up and runs it on a schedule └─ 📁 Cost Manager: model bake-offs, budgets and kill switches It never sends without you, and it asks when it isn't sure. The form filler is the part I use most: the first vendor form takes a few questions, and every form after that fills itself. No app, no subscription. Just the instructions. Free to use. github.com/matthewcauble-boo…

I’m launching a new drink. It’s a juice that matches milk on protein, vitamins and minerals. It tastes like candy without any fake sugars or flavors. The brand is fun and colorful instead of boring and beige. Some are calling it Soylent 2.0 for kids but you can call it: Wonderade. There’s limited spots to get a free sample off the first run. You can sign up here Wonderade.us

The conciseness of Opus 5.5 feels like a negative in some experiences. In our research assistant, models are supposed to narrate their analytics journey along the way so users can introspect & redirect. Opus 4.8 does it beautifully; 5.5 barely talks no matter how much I prod it

I made a DuckDB extension where you can use @typesafeai 's Jev to do quick classification of rows in any csv/parquet file or duckdb table about 10sec for 1k rows ~ better than using an LLM, way more ergonomic than a classifier game-changing for data analysis!

something that the current AI debates emphasize to me: substantive discussion is hard & boring, compared to gossip-like discussion "he's warning us about xrisk to trick us and get power for himself" (even when it makes no sense)

riffing on some cool ducklake stuff - you can easily snapshot financial data and then expose it as a switch in your dashboards. this always annoyed me in cases where we just ended up using excel and screenshots in decks as our source of truth

I was talking to a friend about serving customer-facing dashboards with just Cloudflare R2 & Hyparquet for range queries ~ no db required. Turns out it's fast! first time I haven't reached for DuckDB for this use in while, though naturally I did use it to build the datacube

indeed, you don't really need a semantic layer, context can do the same work

Ya @paseo_sh is where it's at and deserves so much more attention than it's getting. > opencode UI and t3chat in their present states
AI orchestrator review: Paseo paseo.sh/ TBH I've never heard of this app until my harness research had suggested it. At first glance, it seemed very similar to t3.code. Similar layout, similar features, runs 3rd party harnesses. The website puts accent on mobile apps and remote control, which is for me a nice to have, but not the killer feature. Also supports CLI workers + remote control, which looks enticing, but I haven't tried it yet. But then, I realized it has one amazing concept that I haven't seen anywhere before, and that might just be good enough to rethink my workflow. Instead of the usual project -> chat structure, it has a 3 layer structure: project -> workspace -> chat. Workspace can include multiple chats, but can also include terminals and browser windows. And you can set them up in an arbitrary layout. The most interesting part: paseo can inject MCP into the agent context, which allows it to control the terminals and browser windows within the workspace. I can totally see what they're aiming at here. You start a new workspace, and the orchestrator + agent automatically setup a worktree, install your stuff into it, and then boot up dev servers and open browsers in attached terminals. You can tell agents to restart your dev servers or interact with your browsers. When you toggle between workspaces, you toggle between entire entire instances of your work - chats, shells and browsers together. This solves an actual problem, in that it's difficult to toggle between things you're working at among a heap of different browsers, IDE-s, and chats. I vaguely remember people talking about this pain, but I don't remember seeing an actual solution. This feels like one. I'm still exploring here, but as I said, this is the first orchestrator idea good enough to make me consider adapting to it. Downsides? The usual slopbase ills. Eg. voice recording just silently failed for me, no idea why. Plus, it doesn't know how to deal with my symlink-based setup, but none of these apps do, so whatever🤷. So why isn't this app better known around these parts? Marketing, I think. The author ( @moboudra ), doesn't have the same twitter presence and clout as theo and dax. On pure merit, paseo *seems* to be on the same level as opencode and t3.code, and maybe even better. Certainly more innovative.

Need to get Trae's agent involved with the Iran negotiations asap
BREAKING: Trae Young intends to sign a four-year, approximately $212 million deal to stay with the Washington Wizards, with a player option in Year 4, sources tell ESPN. The four-time NBA All-Star declined his $49M player option for a long-term commitment ahead of free agency.
