The two footballers shared the contact numbers of Renfe, Iryo and the Castilla-La Mancha Emergency Services on their Instagram stories, offering support to the relatives of the victims and those in need of assistance. Meanwhile, Spanish footballers such as Marcos Llorente and Dani Carvajal, known for their proximity to the far right, criticised Transport Minister Óscar Puente before the cause of the accident had been established, calling on him to do his job instead of spending time on social media. These reactions also drew criticism, as many people believed the two footballers were more concerned with the minister's political identity than with the accident itself. Puente, a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), is known for his strong opposition to the far-right Vox party and its policies. Carvajal's support for Vox is also well known.
