Think about what the ad is admitting: both the R and D candidates are horrible, and we know we have no winning argument for our side, so we’d rather pump the tires of a candidate who we believe has zero chance of winning to siphon from or dispirit the other side.
This is the most brilliant political ad I've ever seen. Democrats are telling Republicans why the Republican candidate is bad and the Libertarian candidate, whom most Republicans have never even heard of, is worse.
The ad, paid for by the Ohio Democratic Party and authorized by Friends of Sherrod Brown, describes the Republican incumbent as voting for reckless government spending that increased the national debt, which is true and should upset conservative Republicans.
But it also accuses the Libertarian candidate of being an outsider who doesn't belong in D.C. because he wants to abolish the IRS and replace it with a flat tax, balance the federal budget, cut wasteful government spending, defend the Constitution, and support gun rights no matter what.
In other words, the Libertarian actually stands for what conservative Republicans support. The purpose of the ad is not to win votes for the Democrats, but to persuade Republicans to either vote Libertarian or not vote at all. I think it will work.

Today, we raise a glass and a cigar in honor of Marvin R. Shanken, the founder of Cigar Aficionado and a titan of the publishing world, whose genuine love and passion for premium cigars, wine, spirits, and hospitality truly elevated the industries he touched.
Pictured here with Robert Levin in 1996, Marvin changed the way the world appreciates premium cigars, bringing recognition to the craftsmanship and stories behind them for decades. Marvin’s deep commitment to philanthropy and talent for storytelling have left a positive, enduring impression on the world.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Shanken family and everyone at Cigar Aficionado, Wine Spectator, Whisky Advocate, and M. Shanken Communications.

The #stripedbass fishery's decline is something that can no longer be ignored -- unless you have a financial (or political) stake in pretending it isn't happening.
Nice story on what the Montauk surf casting community thinks.

Not a coincidence that I’m smoking Mediterra today. We’ve got Nick Ambeliotis in the house. He makes a nice stick.

That last Mediterra was so good I’m having a Santorini for lunch.

Question for @davidortiz: you have your own line of premium cigars, so why are you handing out someone else’s sticks on live TV?
Help me help you, Papi! I have Sluggers in the case. Pitch your own stuff and create demand.
Smoking a Mediterra Deka natural this morning. One of the nicest cigars I’ve had in a while. Aged ten years and it comes through.

More than twenty years ago I pitched a story idea to Marvin Shanken. He bit, and my story appeared in the Nov/Dec 2002 issue of @CigarAficMag.
Saddned to learn that Mr. Shanken passed away today.
Rest in Peace, Marvin.

"Other" is @KasieWhitener and, given she is polling at the margin of error, it's a shame South Carolina media seems to have no interest in her despite the fact that her presence on the ballot *will* decide the outcome.
I guess it's a uniparty, and we're not invited.
