❌ Private jets ❌ Luxury mega spas ❌ $350,000 salaries to “supervisors” Hearing this government talk about balanced budgets would be funny if it wasn’t hurting our children’s future
Education Minister Paul Calandra says trustees won’t regain control of their school boards until budgets are balanced & stable. A responsibility that now rests with his own supervisors. “So it’s up to you,” I asked. “100%,” he replied. But he hasn't provided a deadline.

Powerful #RedForEd Walk-In at Dorset Park PS today. Teachers and education workers came together to stand up for the public education our children deserve. Our message is clear: Smaller class sizes. More supports for students. Fully funded public education. When families, educators, and communities stand together, we build the power to win the schools our children deserve. This is what building union power looks like! ✊🏾 #RedForEd #WalkIn #FundOurSchools #SmallerClasses #ETT #PublicEducation #BuildingUnionPower

Demonstrations have begun in several German cities; in the video, protesters in Berlin are calling for funds to be directed toward education and social services rather than weapons.

NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions. More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves. In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety. The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action. In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties. The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.” I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

🇷🇸 “We owe our viewers an apology.” A day after Serbia’s student-led movement defeated Aleksandar Vučić’s ruling party in a historic election, regional public broadcaster Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) opened Monday’s evening news with an extraordinary admission. “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly and failed to ask necessary questions. We owe our viewers an apology,” anchor Goran Eror said, reading a statement from RTV employees. The broadcaster acknowledged years of one-sided, uncritical reporting. The editor-in-chief of its main television channel resigned the same day.
This is quite something ! Serbian RTV channel starts yesterday's bulletin by apologizing to viewers👇 "For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly and failed to ask necessary questions. We owe our viewers an apology”

Thanks @TorontoStar & @mahdishabibinia for this insightful piece clarifying @BradMBradford's & @fordnation's path to water privatization: "What qualifies as 'an agent' could be a private company, a public-private partnership like Metrolinx or the Canada Infrastructure Bank, which facilitates private investment in infrastructure projects." thestar.com/gift-redeem?t=e9… @cupelocal79 @Local416 #keepwaterpublic

So much for being “fiscal conservatives.” 🙄 @fordnation and @PaulCalandra have some explaining to do. A record $117 MILLION in government advertising while Ontario’s public schools are struggling for resources. Imagine what $117 million could do for our classrooms. #FundOurSchools
NEW: The Ford government has broken its own record for ad spending. Internal documents show its advertising bill climbed to more than $117 million last year, according to internal documents — the highest total in a single year in Ontario’s history. A breakdown of how the money was spent in this story by me and @CharliePinkerto: thetrillium.ca/news/governme…

Bolivians are protesting against hunger & neoliberalism again. Another general strike could be coming against the US-backed govt of Rodrigo Paz. There is 100% inflation on basic goods right now. Free market reforms have been a disaster.
