Alarming&saddening results from Saxony-Anhalt but no need to be overly dramatic.Population of this struggling Eastern state is 2million.This is ca half Berlin’s population,which will likely elect a leftist government in a fortnight.AFD cannot deliver on expensive plans.
Dreadful news this evening from Berlin.The city today was heaving. Happy vibes, sunshine & smiles aplenty shattered & replaced by relentless sirens. So saddened by the fatality & injuries.Cannot understand the hate.Only consolation is Berlin will remain diverse & open.

Very sad to learn that Mona Khalil died after weeks in the ICU following an Israeli strike that levelled her home in Mansouri. She was a very well-known environmental activist and dedicated her life to saving endangered turtles. She stayed in the south despite Israeli strikes because of her love for the land.
She was a civilian, a renowned figure but Israel targeted her house.

Circulating an old, out-of-context clip of #Lebanon’s PM Nawaf Salam interacting with the late Al-Mayadeen correspondent Fatima Ftouni to imply moral responsibility for her death is both misleading and unethical.
Weaponizing past footage to fit a political narrative distorts reality and undermines basic standards of fairness and context.
PM Salam is not morally and politically responsible - directly or indirectly - for this attack. His conscience is clear. Full stop.
Challenge him on politics and ideas, not pettiness!

Absolutely dreadful Israeli strike kills two reporters. God rest them and all the fatalities of this futile & painful war. While many are sharing her strident- in some cases even hateful -posts. NOTHING justifies her killing.
Amidst the destruction,deaths & misery, this made me smile. A Mosaharati in #Beirut wakes people before dawn for their pre-fast meal. Man filming notes cynically that everyone was up anyway due to Israeli rockets targeting residential buildings nearby.

Many say belligerent Israel would’ve attacked anyway but seem to forget the truce from 2006-2024.During this time,Hezbollah kept busy attacking opponents in Lebanon (2008),assassinating leaders, contributing to Lebanon’s 2019 collapse&committing atrocities in Syria.
I’m rather desensitized but the evacuation alert issued by Israel for all of Beirut’s southern suburb today has me reeling. Like many am also outraged at Hezbollah for serving Iran before even its own partisans let alone Lebanon.Residents left to their own devices with no help.

Very much enjoyed ‘A voix basse’ by Leila Bouzid @berlinale_2010 A tender coming out story amidst horrendous homophobia. Performance is compelling, story shows nuance if somewhat predictable. Hope it would be picked up by a platform so it reaches an Arab audience uncensored.
