Sir David King, former Chief Scientific Advisor to UK Government, sums up why @GreaterCambs busway via Coton Orchard is flawed. "There are alternative ways... expressways either side provide that opportunity...[rather than] yet another roadway through the middle of a green area".
We all want better public transport but there is an alternative than to “destroy the sense that the #orchard has now, of being a historical place & where #trees are part of the design. Trees take up carbon dioxide, cause transpiration, produce cooling…” @Sir_David_King 🌳🚌❌✏️ change.org/p/save-the-green-…

❗️🪓🍎🪓❗️It’s Bonkers @BonkersBusway
Over in Cambridgeshire they’re doing away with pesky orchards to make way for green initiatives like bus lanes theguardian.com/environment/…

Re “latest Rpt to @camcitco Planning Cttee (Presenting Officer Joanna Davies) appears to weight arguments in favour of removal of these three 100+year-old trees”. Closing argument of QueensColl barrister re felling trees impacting Nature Reserve “It was tree officer’s choice”.
Queens' College #Cambridge want to fell mature trees, three poplars and two healthy ash trees, in a protected open space next to #Paradise Nature Reserve - biodiverse bat conduit.
“It was the tree officer’s choice to fell them.”

Let’s not pour concrete across our countryside for a bus road and say it’s ‘a key part of decarbonisation’ or fell 100s of mature trees to ‘reduce air pollution’ @LNethsingha #BusLaneNotBusway #CutTrafficNotTrees #SaveCotonOrchard 🖊 change.org/p/save-the-green-…

St Matthew’s Piece is a cool, tranquil mini woodland in our busy city. During the last hot summer it was noticeable cooler in this space. Thank you @cppf_pc for recognising the importance of these 100 year old trees in this conservation area

Some of our volunteers are in today’s @CambridgeIndy, helping to highlight the plight of #toads (and other #amphibians) in central Cambridge. Unfortunately, they often need a hand returning to their breeding ponds at this time of year. #ToadsonRoads #TheGrateEscape
