A long read, but its the truth! I genuinely think we are watching football loyalty slowly die and I don't know what replaces it. I've followed Man United home and away for decades. Thousands and thousands of miles, trains, cars, coaches, hotels, stupid kick off times, days off work and an absolutely frightening amount of money. But forget the money for a minute because you can always earn more money. You can't get the time back. Weekends away from your wife and kids, family things you've missed, holidays planned around fixtures, getting home at stupid o'clock then getting up for work a few hours later. And none of us were forced to do it. We did it because we fucking loved it. When the fixtures came out you didn't think do I fancy that game? You thought right, how am I getting there? That's the difference. And lately I've noticed more and more people I've known through football for years saying the same thing. "They can have my ticket." That's not normal. These aren't people who started supporting United because they won a trophy last year. These are lads who've been everywhere following them. And before rival fans jump on with the glory hunter stuff, that doesn't really wash anymore either. Yes, Manchester United were ridiculously successful. We were spoilt for years and I'll never pretend otherwise. But we've been mediocre for the best part of 12 years now. There are kids going to Old Trafford today who've never seen Manchester United win the league. For some of them, United being bang average is basically all they've ever known. What glory are they hunting? They're still going. Their dads and mams are still taking them. They're still buying the shirts, travelling away and growing up supporting United. So this isn't about demanding we win the league every year. Football fans can handle losing. Fuck me, we've proved that. It's everything else. You can have a Saturday night kick off now where you're £100 for a train, £100 for a hotel, ticket, food, drink and you're basically writing off 24 hours of your life. Sometimes you're fucked for work the next day as well. And increasingly you sit there thinking... What am I actually getting back from this? Not trophies. I don't mean that. I mean from the relationship with the club. Because it doesn't feel like a relationship anymore. It feels like a transaction. You're a membership number. A ticket account. A customer. And if after 20, 30, 40 years you finally say fuck this, you can have my ticket, it doesn't really matter. Someone else will take it. Probably someone who'll spend more money while they're there. They'll buy the shirt, go in the Megastore, buy the experience, take the photos and maybe pay hundreds more for something that used to simply be part of going to the football. Financially that might make perfect sense. But I think football is playing a very dangerous game. Because the people you're slowly replacing aren't customers. They're supporters. They're the people who went when it was brilliant and went when it was shit. The people who knew everyone around their seat. The people whose dad took them and who now take their own kids. The people who didn't need a "matchday experience" because the fucking match WAS the experience. And I don't even think this is just Manchester United. I'm hearing supporters from other clubs saying exactly the same things. Maybe we're just further down the road than some. Football is becoming an event. A day out. A product. Something you experience once and stick on Instagram. And maybe that's just the future. Maybe old fuckers like me need to accept it 😂 But here's the bit I'd worry about if I ran a football club. People aren't as angry anymore. They're just losing interest. There's a massive difference. Angry supporters still care. They protest. They complain. They sing about the owners. They demand change. When someone who's arranged their entire life around football for 30 years suddenly says... "Know what? I can't be arsed going."

On Sunday there will be no flag display on The Stretford End. In its place, a single banner will hang above the players’ tunnel with a clear message to the owners, directors and decision-making staff at Manchester United: “THE WAY YOU TREAT US IS A DISGRACE” This isn’t a ‘TRA’ message, it’s a message on behalf of every genuine fan group, match-going supporter, supporters’ club and fan representative who has either contacted us directly or been negatively impacted by the recent behaviour of The Club. It’s an honest, heartfelt cry for recognition from the maligned, vilified, and misrepresented beating heart of our football club – the generational match-going supporters. Neither is this solely a ‘Manchester United’ problem, this is a league-wide crisis that should be addressed at every club, regardless of rivalries and history. Without drastic changes, there will be no rivalries in the future vision for football shared by the decision makers. Whilst we still advocate for a change in ownership, we believe that there should be a realistic roadmap for any protest if it is to act as a catalyst for change. Match-going supporters should be prioritised over all others within the Club’s Fan Engagement model and all aspects of the Fans’ Forum process should be reviewed & improved to ensure that its fit for purpose. Dedicated fan representation that engages openly and regularly with the match-going supporters and proactively fights to ensure that they are treated as a priority by The Club is essential. Unless our generational match-going support is given a real voice that is actually listened to, the little that remains of our fan culture will soon be gone forever. TRA aren’t a protest group, we’re an ‘atmosphere’ group but we’ve never shied away from making our position clear when we believe not doing so would be to the detriment of the interests of match-going supporters. We hope that you’ll understand and support our decision and that those of you who are asking for meaningful change and are able to help will stand up and be counted when called upon in the near future. Until then, we’ll continue to fully back and support the players and manager throughout, starting with the derby on Sunday. MUFC

1 day until my mood is once again in the hands of 11 men, one ball and the Gaffer on the touchline. 10 months of emotional ups and downs, hope, heartbreak and absolute madness incoming. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Come on United! ❤️⚪️⚫️

Reclaim The Stretford End – Update 🇾🇪TRA have now designed & funded over 350 flags as part of the RTSE campaign and prior to the Leeds game we announced that 180 of these would be introduced into Stretford End Tier 2. 🇾🇪The Club also contacted everyone in both T1 & T2 who had a ticket for the game on our behalf, explaining that our resources are stretched to the limit and we can't do this without the help of fellow Stretford Enders, resulting in approximately 25 responses. 🇾🇪Before kick-off approximately only 60 of the 180 flags were used and at full-time over 40 were taken out of the stadium, a handful of which were recovered by stewards at the exits or Reds outside the ground. We're happy to admit some responsibility for this as we could have been clearer that the flags were not gifts to be taken home but are paid for by the fans and should therefore remain in The Stretford End for use at every game. Lesson learned. 🇾🇪Taking all of this into account, we’ve decided to remove all remaining flags from T2 and concentrate our efforts on T1 for the remainder of the season. Until we have a team of volunteers in place in both tiers that’s capable of managing such a large number of flags. 🇾🇪For the Brentford game therefore, we’ll have all flags (over 350) in T1, including the remaining waver flags and the new 18m flag that were originally intended for T2. 🇾🇪We’re working hard to ensure that T2 will again be fully involved in time for the start of the new season but this will only be possible with the help of a suitable number of volunteers up there so please keep an eye out for future communications regarding this. If you’d like to help out in T1 for Brentford and can get to Old Trafford the day before the game, you can send your details (name, membership) to [email protected] and we’ll be in touch nearer the game. 🇾🇪Cheers🇾🇪

🇾🇪It's official 🇾🇪 Stretford End Tier 2 TRA will be introducing 120 flags into Stretford T2 for the Leeds game as part of the @RTStretford_End Campaign. This is the first phase for T2 and will include this massive flag over the central areas. If you've got a ticket up there for the Leeds game you'll be getting an email with more details about how you can get involved over the next few days. MUFC
