data literacy is an important skill in building strong arguments & city policy: numbers are hard to read!
we can see an issue here: the number being touted is an average of all time, not recent usage, growth, or accounting for other variance (continued ⬇️)

Citibikedata.nyc tracks dockings as "activity". 6 round trips per day on average since they installed the station 3 years ago. Slimming down the station would allow a family car to park there.
And how does it compare to growth across the entire city? It's in the 85th percentile, which means this dock is doing great, and growing.
this is the Citi Bike 53/62 dock in Maspeth. maps.app.goo.gl/QFevd2rXXYZa…
That means we can look up usage data (see next)
Weekday average is 12 rides a day
Weekend average is 5 rides a day
Rides in/out are balanced and consistent, means likely commuting.
These docks serve 8-12 parking spots of people while taking up only two spots.
im glad i guilted them into doing this nitter.cf/steadydrift/status/211…
all the worst people you know are at Tartine in hannam-dong taking a break from shopping gorpcore while they set up the palantir “sovreign ai” pop-up 🤮
as much as i hate to say it apple will never make a macbook with a touch screen, or an ipad that works as a home device because it reduces product verticals to do so
one of the incredible things that apple did was build an ecosystem of products that harmonized, but they no longer are interested in this endeavor
