Is it time to mention that I have written a book? The Story of British Animation comes out 23rd Sep 2021 - availlable for pre-order now in a variety of places. If you buy 174 copies and flick through the covers the character moves - honest... bloomsbury.com/uk/story-of-b…

Afternoon oddity... Anyone recognise this? From a mute safety print c1946 - incomplete or perhaps a test. Came to #bfinationalarchive from the Dufay-Chromex company. It's not Verwitterte Melodie, but I suspect the animation is not British even if it was processed in the UK.

When I was researching a short doc on British stop-motion animation last year, I was struck by how little scholarship there is on the subject. So πŸŽ‰ for @cjpallant's book on Smallfilms, the puppetmasters behind BAGPUSS, CLANGERS, PINGWINGS etc. Can't wait to read it.

For an upcoming issue of @SightSoundmag we're keen to find out about the VHS and DVD rental shops still going in the UK. Do you work at one or have a favourite? Please let us know!

Thrilled that our special LIVE @fananimresearch podcast episode on @shinkaimakoto's Your Name (2016) - including discussion of the liminal spaces of a film invested in temporality and mobility AND a lively Q&A with those gathered at the @BFI's Reuben Library - is finally out!

Cute. Working on the collection of films made by pro-am animator Martin Funnell, recently donated to the BFI National Archive, and he playfully leans into his name in his own pre-film logo featuring a witch on a broom with a funnel hat. c1975.

An example of one of Martin's films PRIVATE BEETHOVEN likely made c1970 in which music wins out over violence. Lovely characters in cut-out animation.

Well this is rather lovely. Reviewing a print with scant cataloguing details this looks like an early @halasbatchelor production advertising Rinso c1940, made in the distinctive hues and reseau of Dufaycolor

Anyone read The Story of British Animation and fancy leaving a review on amazon? Currently there are four ratings but only one written review which kindly gives it four stars but has the title "Difficult to read" because of the font and shiny paper. Just asking for a friend...πŸ₯Έ
