I think considerable PLAN presence will from now on stay east of Taiwan so that they don’t have to enter the west pacific in times of tension. Of course if the presence is enough, or if reenforcement will come through, is another matter.
Taiwan's National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu said the PLA is sending groups of vessels, including the PLAN carrier Liaoning (16), to exercise east of the First Island Chain.
TSM counts 34 PLAN and 19 CCG/MSA/RSB vessels as of Oct. 28, including three theater command far-seas formations. The Liaoning transited between Okinawa and Miyako on Oct. 14 with destroyers Anshan (103), Wuxi (104) and Huainan (123), per Japan's Joint Staff.
ROCN surface vessel plan now includes: light frigates (2 prototypes under construction, but facing delays) but after that ASW type may continue but AD type to mutate to catamaran. A 7000 ton Aegis on drawing board.

To questions re why no VLS/ESSM —- these are purely my ideas to upgrade with lowest possible budget. I don’t think these old hulls are worth too much investment.

It is the first Ukrainian strike on Russian oil infrastructure in nearly 2 weeks, after the St. Petersburg oil port on October 18.
