Big problems need big thinking so stretching across political lines is surely the way forward
"It enables you to have fresh conversations...with a blank piece of paper." Does politics need more cross-party work? Jo Tanner makes the case as to why. @CalumAM | @nationjames | @StraightTie

Well worth listening back to the brilliant @g__j on @TimesRadio talking to @CalumAM this morning around 8.40am. He talks so much sense and makes energy which is pretty complex so simple to follow. Thank goodness for such sensible and pragmatic business leaders

Never seen this before! Incredible scenes. I also found out last night while sat with my 77 yr old mother that when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1975, the dr told my father (who was abusive) what she had and left him to explain it to my mum. We really have come a long way…..
Oliver Reed told a 55-year-old woman with two Oscars to be quiet on The Tonight Show, so she got up and walked off the set. He kept talking about her after she was gone, cracking jokes to Johnny Carson about women's lib, and he had no idea she was coming back. Reed said later that the producers had warned him about Shelley Winters before they even started taping. They told him she'd talk a lot and that he should tell her to be quiet if she interrupted him. Then they sat a 37-year-old British hellraiser right next to her and hit record. You can watch it building in the full segment, which runs about 16 minutes. Reed shushes her, she tries a joke and gets a dead stare back, and eventually she says goodbye and leaves. That's when he turns to Johnny and says, "So much for women's lib. Where's the lady that shouted?" And he keeps going. He tells Johnny most women are perfectly happy in the kitchen, then throws in that men make better cooks anyway. That's about when Winters walked back out from stage left with a glass in her hand and poured it right over his head. Johnny, the most powerful man in late-night TV, looked at a soaking-wet Oliver Reed and told him to lick it off. Johnny basically invented the talk show couch, and the whole point of it was that guests stayed out there after their own interview. So Winters had to sit and listen to Reed's entire act from a few feet away, and the producers knew exactly who they'd booked next to each other. Reed also picked a very bad person to lecture about the kitchen. Winters had been in Hollywood since the 1940s and won her Oscars for The Diary of Anne Frank and A Patch of Blue. She ended up giving the Anne Frank one away to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. She'd also reportedly dumped a pot of pasta on one of her husbands for complaining about her cooking, so this wasn't exactly new territory for her. Reed called the whole thing a giggle when British TV asked him about it later. People still can't even agree on what was in the glass. Wikipedia has it as whisky, and there's an Austin Chronicle column that swears it was a whole champagne bucket of ice water. Eight years later, somebody cast the two of them in the same movie, a 1983 sex comedy called Fanny Hill.

I fully support this message
Dear bra companies, I am BEGGING you to stop making bras with removable pads. 😭 Nobody wants to spend 10 minutes trying to shove a folded-up triangle back into a tiny hole after laundry day. WE ARE TIRED.

This was very moving to watch
For those who missed Rachel with Jordan Brown. This was 10 seconds after she interviewed Mark Allen. Two great friends shattered and in utter turmoil, treated with empathy and human kindness. Snooker (and racing) is lucky to have her.

What an incredible journey
Earlier this year, a "really weird" email marked the beginning of a life-altering experience for Lib Dem MP Anna Sabine A surgeon watching her Politics Live performance pointed out a big lump on the side of her throat and urged her to get it checked out. The subsequent surgery severed one of Sabine's vocal cords, preventing her from speaking in anything above a whisper Now, @anna4fes speaks to The House mag's @BenGartside about returning to Parliament, her refusal to step back from public speaking, and embracing her newfound social media fame as the ‘Whispering MP’ politicshome.com/news/articl…

Let’s all be a bit more Dolly. RIP
I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.

"The dividing line between the political and the royal worlds is not as it was". As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare to move back to the UK, what impact will issues like security have on the new Labour government?
