"You've got to act, and you've got to be willing to fail. You've got to be willing to crash and burn, you know, with people on the phone, with starting a company, with whatever. If you're afraid of failing, you won't get very far." Steve Jobs, 1994 interview.

Matrioshka Brains (MB) are megascale computers constructed out of microelectronic and/or nanoscale components. MB may be constructed as shells around a star (internally powered Matrioshka Brains: IPMB) or may be constructed independently of a star if large amounts of power are harvested from stars in other locations and beamed to the MB (externally powered Matrioshka Brains: EPMB). A third variant, (self-powered Matrioshka Brains: SPMB) which generates power via controlled nuclear fusion or matter/antimatter reactions, is possible. Source: Robert J. V. I. Slysh, 1985. “A Search in the Infrared to Microwave for Astroengineering Activity.” IAU Symposium 112, pp. 315–319. DOI: 10.1017/S0074180900146649 Dyson (1960) treated waste heat as far-infrared emission from a habitable-zone structure near ~300 K. Slysh pointed out that Carnot efficiency favors colder radiators, down to the 2.7 K background, so the search should run from the far infrared into the submillimeter and microwave. Using early IRAS extracts, he argued that 50–400 K, solar-luminosity spheres within 1 kpc should already have been seen, and listed a few candidates he said were easily confused with dusty red giants. FULL INTERVIEW: Jared Isaacman says if you don't want data centers in your backyard, put them in space. The physics isn't broken, the economics are hard, and hitting pause while rivals keep building isn't a strategy. @rookisaacman is the Administrator of @NASA. He joined @theojaffee and @schisofrenia on the new U.S. Space Academy, nuclear propulsion, and why he thinks losing the second space race would cost more than anyone expects: 00:42 the Space Academy the President just announced 01:58 why it's a four-year federal academy, not a trade school 02:52 attracting talent is easy, keeping it is the hard part 03:13 why NASA can never overlap with industry 03:53 why NASA has aura and the IRS doesn't 05:11 Elon refocusing on the moon, and why Mars is still the prize 06:34 fission, then fusion, then antimatter annihilation 07:50 what AI builders could learn from how NASA tells its story 09:09 if you don't want data centers in your backyard, put them in space 11:43 whether we should build a Dyson swarm 12:51 bring HD cameras this time, we're leaving no doubters behind 13:18 putting iPhones on Artemis II was one of his first executive orders 13:57 what the ISS is actually doing up there 15:05 the nuclear octocopter going to Titan 16:12 why NASA should exist at all when the private sector can do it 17:43 the space race nobody is talking about

Question: Why are things so expensive? Answer: Because you have to pay 3 to 4 times the real cost to cover a bunch of f#ing lazy r#ds who do absolutely nothing and contribute nothing. That’s why it seems expensive to the ones who actually do the work.

Was verbietet Gott im achten Gebot? Was gebietet dir aber Gott in diesem Gebot? Daß ich den Nutzen meines Nächsten, wo ich kann, fördere, gegen ihn so handele, wie ich möchte, daß man an mir handelt, und treu arbeite, damit ich dem Bedürftigen in seiner Not helfen kann.
