Hi, I'm free.
Beat up but fine. Police stole my phone. Settlers punched me in the face several times, likely broke @AdeleShoko's wrist and gave @the_andrey_x a concussion. They threatened to shoot us with an assault rifle over and over.
Will tell the full story later, but for now, I just want to be clear about what happened. We witnessed two settlers locking a military gate in Umm al-Khair, blocking the only way to more than twenty Palestinian communities: trapping families inside, preventing students from reaching school and workers from their jobs, blocking delivery of food and access to ambulances, etc.
It's a crime that the military has this ability at all--but last night, we discovered that random settler terrorists also have the key. We confronted them and began asking questions on camera, and they nearly murdered us for it. When the police finally arrived, they arrested Andrey and me and charged us with assault.
The gate is still locked.

🚨 American journalist Jasper Nathaniel was arrested after he, activist Adele Shoko and another companion Andrey X, were attacked by Israeli settlers in Umm al-Khair, a Palestinian village in the South Hebron Hills, according to Shoko.
Video Shoko shared shows Nathaniel being detained as he shouts, "I just got beat up!"

October 19, 2025. On the first day of the olive harvest in Turmus'ayyer, the Israeli Defense Force leads a group of farmers directly into a brutal ambush by armed settlers. These people need to be in prison by tomorrow, and the people of this village, and all across Palestine, need to be protected. Enough is enough.

I just launched a newsletter to help people understand the staggering cruelty of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, and how there is a direct line from here to the massacre in Gaza. Please subscribe and share I’ve nearly destroyed myself working on it!

worth hearing the stories of horror-become-mundane that my bro-in-law Jasper is hearing from Palestinians in the West Bank 👀
I’m currently traveling through the West Bank documenting settler and soldier violence. You can follow along here if interested:

Hiked up a forest trail on Mingus Mountain today and got really great looks at a lifer Olive Warbler. A beautiful and interesting species— not a true wood-warbler but actually monotypic in its own family.
