A special treat for my fellow Magik fans: Issue 2 of the comic adaptation of my 'Magik & the New Mutants' fanfic. Thank you so much to ZyphoriaComics for doing the amazing art. Here are the Magik pages from the issue, which takes place during the Sentinels issue of New Mutants.

X-Men 40 is actually a good issue, but seeing how the Magik-Cyclops dynamic from Krakoa has been erased so Kwannon can have the same dynamic is like if in Star Trek season 3, Spock was suddenly an ensign getting into mischief with Checkov and Sulu was the First Officer.

The 'second chances' dialogue feels off to me. Juggernaut is the 1960s supervillain struggling with making his recent redemption arc stick, while Magik has been a New Mutant and X-Man her whole life. But the dialogue makes it seem like the opposite.

After 2 surprisingly good issues, DNX #3 falls apart for anyone who read X of Swords. Now, if Mackay hadn't abused the 'use Worf Effect on Magik' trope nonstop for 20 issues, he could have used it effectively in DNX to explain why she couldn't just do this again.

Thrilled to announce X-ORCISTS is now an ongoing! From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your support has made this possible and it's been truly a week to remember. @GermnPeralta10 & I can't wait to show you the story we're cooking up ⚔️💛

I've been seeing some people say they want Amanda Sefton in X-Orcists? Why? What could possibly be the benefit of confusing newer Magik fans and reminding old fans how much Bob Harras hated Illyana by bringing back Mrs. Incest? Leave that wound closed.
Ashley Allen and Germán Peralta’s ‘X-Orcists’ is now an ongoing series! And the mystical X-Team is growing! Just revealed at #MarvelNYCC, monster-slayer Elsa Bloodstone will be joining the team alongside Magik, Madelyne Pryor, Juggernaut, and Bloodline. Check out the #3 cover and get ready for the series this November. 🎨: Ben Harvey

Pre-orders must be shockingly high. I hope it isn't a mistake and that they aren't leaving money on the table because turning 'Magik' into an ongoing has more sales potential at face value in both the short and long-term.

Ashley Allen gets it. "In writing this book, however, I have realized how much of Illyana’s strength comes from her restraint. The discipline to carry everything that has happened to her — everything she’s survived — and still choose who she wants to be. That power is admirable."

Inferno benefits so much from being the lead-in to Quest for Magik and the catalyst for Belasco's return for Illyana instead of being the failure of a 'final' story that forgot to pay off anything or have the long-promised final battle with Belasco.
New Mutants #73 cover dated March 1989. While Magik battles S'ym, Cannonball, Sunspot, Rictor, and Warlock engage in a desperate search for her. Will they find Magik before tragedy befalls her? Meanwhile, Mirage, Rusty, and Skids do their best to protect Artie, Leech, and the babies.

I was not expecting the Mangaverse to be this good. Web of Destiny is the best AU story for Illyana since What If Magik nearly a decade ago.

This feels like a miracle for Mackay's Magik: a joke that isn't stupid but is smart: 'I don't care where the intelligence is from if it's accurate.' Using a spell to subdue a villain. No being shot in the back. No being made to throw up. No immediate Worf-Effect.

There's still plenty of time for old habits to return, but after Age of Revelation made the 'brilliant' decision to immediately kill off the only person with any connection to Doug and any reason to care about Doug being a villain along with her, this little is still significant.

As frustrating as it can be that Magik isn't allowed to cast spells and often is reduced to just her sword - this is why. It's very risky to use offensive spells when you can casually make nuclear-sized explosions. Using energy blasts would risking nuking her teammates.

Tell me you know nothing about Magik without telling me you know nothing. Her origin is a darker retelling of Luke Skywalker's origin, where she doesn't become a villain because she spares her tormenter. cbr.com/mcu-x-men-start-as-v…

- for that brief and non-new reader friendly version of Magik and would be far better off without it. Adaptations should strive to be better than the source material, not repeat the worst mistakes, which is why 97 season 2 is such a failure. It is long past time for an adaptation

-to finally get Magik right, and that means keeping her origin intact for the first time ever, especially the fact that she spared Belasco, and writing her the way she was originally written - as the 'outsider among outsiders' who works to keep her dark half under control.
