Periscope does not live on in spaces - with periscope you could search for live video broadcasts on a map, interacting with total strangers while they shared visual experiences allowing for human connections audio alone does not. Imagine if it were possible now to see not just hear what is really happening in Ukraine while interacting with people living those everyday moments. Or to join a broadcast from someone in Russia and ask them live about how they are feeling and the impact to their lives. Anyone with a phone could broadcast an event in real time, uncensored, while showing not just sharing the emotions of what they were witnessing, and then the viewer interacting with them live. Periscope helped build worldwide empathy and understanding among its users in ways audio alone does not. You didn’t need to speak the same language to see and share experiences in this way. We formed lifelong friendships without borders or prejudice, with people we would of never met if it were not for the chance to see the world through their eyes and have shared experiences in real time. These moments on periscope changed us, changed how we saw ourselves and each other across the world and in ways simply not possible with audio or one way short videos alone.
