Was working on a recent perf-sensitive feature in CuPy and it was almost like doing HFT-style work. The strict constraint was: no perf regression. A small C++ RAII object cost ~15 ns/call, unpacking a non-empty kwargs dict cost ~90–130 ns, one extra keyword-only argument cost ~10 ns. Even the benchmark harness itself added enough overhead to create a fake ~12–15% regression It was a good overnight run. Happy that it's over. LOL, Opus-5 was just stuck on “This is the cost we had to carry, I will write a comment to inform...” instead of actually fixing it.

Late update, but I’ve officially left Microsoft Research. Really grateful for the people, the problems I got to work on, and everything I learned along the way. Was on a good vacation, thinking about what's next :) I am gonna miss the cats!
