Defaulting to 'For You' is not going to make me engage with Twitter more. Fuck off.
Find me on Mastodon or Bluesky instead. Preferably Mastodon because any capitalistic venture capital driven social media will eventually go the way of Twitter.

Still seeing DNS issues, Wireshark shows the return code is 2=server failure. Time to turn on DNS logging, and tcpdump on the firewall. Probable there's something odd with my firewall rules that's initially breaking DNS rules. Perhaps it's having UDP issues & falling back to TCP?
DNS progress. Getting NXDOMAIN errors, & non authoritative domain. My fault! SOA record with wrong name server, config missing domain (it matched the name of one of the sample commented out domains! Kept missing that), allow-recursion set but recursion not enabled on one server!
OpenBSD progress. When the 4G dongle isn't busy throwing watchdog errors, the trunk just fails over with no hassle when the network connection is removed! It then switches back 'ok' but *sigh* the Broadcom adapter is awful and needs a down/up to get it to work. Still only a test!
This is for the ZTE MF833U1, and it occasionally fails when plugged into my router too, so it's obviously a dongle problem. My APU4 firewall has mini PCI-e and SIM slots, so need to buy a card for that, and attach some antennae.
Just because trunk 'works' doesn't mean it assigns an address if the interface won't assign one automatically, so connectivity failed. Might be able to work around using dhcpd. Unfortunately also got a watchdog failure from the USB dongle, so I'll need to buy a new one
Progress on the 4G dongle under OpenBSD. Almost complete non-issue - plugged it in, detected by cdce(4). Assigned an IP address to it, set the default route, instant Internet!
Also tried trunk and that worked 'perfectly' also in terms of failing interfaces over. However..
This is more work, but also provides me with finer control, & means I can work around the lack of hysteresis in the router if the fibre line keeps bouncing up and down. Wonder how much 'fun' communicating with the 4G dongle to start it up will be..
Suspicion confirmed about FTTP - there's no modem bit, like there still is with FTTC. The FTTP ONT seems to be basically a fibre to Ethernet transceiver, which you authenticate with using PPPoE. So, backup 4G has to move to the firewall end. How do I manage that? ifstated
Tonight's diversion (other than playing Inkle's Overboard! a most excellent game) is figuring out how to get IPV6 from my limited FTTC router to my OpenBSD firewall, regardless of if FTTC or backup 4G is active. Answer: don't use the router, it'll all be moot when I move to FTTP.
Attached my CRT monitor to my modern PC via a DisplayPort to VGA adapter. Modern low res pixel art games such as Loco Motive look *way* better on the CRT than a 2536x1440p TFT. If you're going to put low res games on modern monitors, it needs a filter to smooth the jaggies.
In 'obviously this must be spelled out', when you reject someone by saying 'I'm not a fan of kids'. Oh it's OK, my son is 16. Again Unfuck you. Obviously I need to absolutely say *I DO NOT WANT TO DATE ANYONE WITH CHILDREN*. As if if 'child free' in my profile didn't work
Oh FFS, latest online dating bollocks is 'My picture is AI, message me for my real picture'. No, unfuck you, post your real picture or fuck off
Result! DHCP and DDNS working, including not only for modern systems but also older systems with a lick of face paint such as ArcaOS, and embedded devices such as HDMI switches and IP phones
Next up, do I make the effort to enable IPV6 now I have a working lookup infrastructure?

One week left for our Avernum 4: Greed and Glory Kickstarter! We just posted a quick update. Still going great. We did an interview. We're updating games. Lots of news here.
Thanks again for all your kind support!

Got my wireless network working after moving DHCP off the firewall & using a local DNS server. This involved :
dhcrelay (run on firewall wireless i/f, put in IPs of DHCP servers)
Modify PF rules to allow DNS traffic
Edit allow-query & allow-recursion to permit wireless range
