Every time an AO3-scraped site pops up and everyone starts issuing DMCAs or using the site’s forms to take their work down, I just rip my hair out. Do not ever do this. It is almost ALWAYS an attempt to prey on your emotions to get your email or other data. Report to OTW and let them handle it. OTW is on the case now, as it happens. Just breathe.

She doxxed fanfic writers and filed so many takedowns that eventually fan fiction sites took down the entire category of her works. Her infamy is not unfounded and not based on misogyny. She genuinely hated fan works of any kind. Lol

also everyone needs to shut up about anne rice because none of you even know what you’re fucking talking about, she wasn’t the only author who had issues with fanfic and I find it misogynistic that she’s the only one who has been turned into this huge fandom bogeyman

One thing I love since the ao3 shutdown is the way we share our fics now. Everyone has their own version (gdocs, ellipsus, tumblr…) and it really feels like the old fashioned way of chucking a bottle into the sea and hoping someone catches it, I find it fun 😭

I've seen a lot of authors consider deleting their work as soon as Ao3 is back up, so I want to offer an alternative solution. You can make your fics private/inaccessiable through a private collection:

i am realising how many people don't actually enjoy creating and suddenly the amount of ai in fan spaces starts to make sense

This ao3 discourse is really highlighting to me that a lot of people genuinely believe “you will create and get nothing and be happy” is a sustainable model for fanfiction.
