Binance just got hacked for $5.84B across 9 chains.
This is officially the biggest hack in history, nearly 4x larger than Bybit's $1.50B exploit.
Here's the full picture of what happened:
Starting at 20:05 UTC, attackers breached Binance's hot-wallet signing system and drained 9 networks in 40 minutes.
Non-Ethereum chains moved first, proving this wasn't a single smart-contract bug:
- 20:05 UTC: 233M XRP ($293M) left XRPL
- 20:10 UTC: 970,522 SOL ($95M) left Solana
- 20:20 UTC: 18,270 BTC ($1.44B) and 684.6M TRX ($246M) moved out
At 20:24:23 UTC, Binance's main Ethereum hot wallet (Binance 14) had a malicious auto-sweeper attached to it and sent $2.58B across 64 tokens in one transaction.
24 seconds later, Binance 16 sent another 28,005 ETH ($63.4M) to the exact same address, followed by 823M USDC from a third hot wallet at 20:41 UTC.
Across 55 hacker addresses, the $5.84B haul included:
- $1.77B USDT
- $1.44B BTC (18,270 BTC)
- $823M USDC
- $443M ETH (195,460 ETH drained directly)
- $382M XRP and RLUSD
- $246M TRX
- $95M SOL
- $75M WBETH
- $50.5M XAUT
- $50.4M UNI
- $43.9M ENA
- $38.1M PEPE
- $29.7M LINK
- $29M USD1 and WLFI
Hijacked Binance 14 wallet:
0x28C6c06298d514Db089934071355E5743bf21d60
Primary EVM hacker wallet:
0x5227f603C1eE34CE3C06eFe6477003BDfCCB2f8c
Initial Bitcoin hacker wallet:
bc1q0mtc2f5agpkvlq6hhahmfr3hlr55kyfjhl2mnm
Then came the wildest detail of the night.
Because the auto-sweeper on Binance 14 stayed active, fresh user deposits kept getting drained into the hacker's wallet for over 3 hours.
Tether literally had to blacklist Binance's own hot wallet, locking $1.35M USDT inside it just to stop the leak.
Right now, the $5.84B is split in two:
~$2.62B is frozen on-chain.
Stablecoin issuers hit their kill switches within an hour:
- Tether froze $1.57B USDT
- Circle froze $823M USDC (100% locked)
- Ripple helped freeze ~$200M
- WLFI froze $29M, while BEAM burned 984M BEAM straight out of the thief's wallet
Those tokens are dead weight. The hacker can't move a cent.
~$3.10B cannot be frozen.
Native Bitcoin, ETH, TRX, SOL, and DeFi tokens have no central off-switch.
The 18,270 BTC ($1.44B) has already been emptied from the first Bitcoin address and split across 19 new wallets.
On Ethereum, the attacker bought another 122,310 ETH ($277M) with stolen USDT before the freeze and ran 75+ Uniswap trades dumping altcoins into ETH.
Aave froze ~90% of its lending markets as a precaution so the thief couldn't post stolen ETH or WBETH as collateral to borrow clean cash.
When the first alerts hit X, $BNB dropped 8.6% in minutes before bouncing once the freezes landed.
So can Binance survive a ~$3.10B net loss, or is this another FTX?
Binance's $1.00B SAFU fund isn't enough on its own. The stolen Bitcoin alone ($1.44B) exceeds SAFU, leaving a ~$2.10B gap for Binance's corporate treasury.
Still, FTX collapsed because customer deposits were gambled away.
Binance holds $165B in verified 1:1 customer reserves, so tonight's ~$3.10B net hit equals 1.88% of user funds.
In 2023, Binance wired $4.30B in cash to settle its US DOJ fine, twice tonight's post-SAFU gap.
Binance paused withdrawals temporarily to rotate wallets and pledged 100% coverage. Don't send funds to old saved deposit addresses until rotation finishes.
Users won't lose a dollar here, though every exchange's hot-wallet setup changes tomorrow.
People warned AI could crack Bitcoin's cryptography in 1 to 2 years.
So tonight I tested the other side of that equation myself.
Six days ago, @Starknet and @StarkWareLtd opened a pure hash-based wallet lock track (SLH-DSA) on their public lab built on @OpenZeppelin code. There is zero cash prize and zero airdrop points behind it. Just builders and AI agents taking turns making quantum-safe wallet locks cheap enough for everyday people.
Why hash-based locks? As @EliBenSasson noted today, AI can shortcut neat math puzzles, whereas raw hashes give it zero structure to exploit.
I pointed my AI agent at the lab tonight. It read 67 earlier patches from 7 engineers, shaved off another 23,238 gas with 0 broken checks across 65 attacks, and put my GitHub (@thangvmt) at #1 on the live board (Record #68).
In 6 days, 8 people and their AI agents cut that recovery check 9.29x to $0.35, while everyday quantum-safe transfers on the same board (Falcon-512) are already down to $0.023.
That heavy hash-based lock (396.4M gas) still needs a native hashing upgrade to fit Starknet's 100M tx cap and formal audits, while smart accounts already let Starknet wallets swap locks like a software update instead of waiting years for a Bitcoin or Ethereum hard fork.
If AI moves this fast on defense at home, don't bet your wallet that attackers move slow.
7 wallets pulled $9.75M out of Solana memecoins in the last 30 days.
Look at the two ways they did it:
> #1 launched 9,613 coins, held for 22.7 seconds: +$3,326,469
> #2 launched 2,146 coins, held for 6.7 seconds: +$1,222,359
> #3 launched 2,180 coins, held for 4.0 seconds: +$1,118,080
> #5 launched just 4 coins ($40K in, $1.13M out): +$1,094,492
> #7 launched just 2 coins ($17.5K in, $910.5K out): +$893,080
Top 3 are machine-gun bots dumping 13,939 tickers into sniper scripts in seconds.
The next 4 launched only 21 coins all month, cooked the charts for hours, extracted $4.08M, and drained their burner wallets to $0.
Different hold times. Exact same exit liquidity.
Vlad Tenev told Wall Street on Tuesday he's "doubling down" on Robinhood Chain. Then @RobinhoodCrypto put @standard_rsv on its timeline.
Tuesday's Q3 numbers explain why Robinhood is moving this fast. Its chain cleared $80B to $100B in DEX volume, over $50M in fees, and $26M in net revenue in its first full quarter. Ecosystem tokens jumped 20% to 57% after the call.
Wednesday's post announced URC-5 going live on the chain. @0xbeans wrote it, and @Uniswap merged the draft into its official URC repo on October 18 as PR #20.
On Uniswap v4, if a token opens a 3% fee pool to fund its reserve, anyone can deploy a 1% copycat pool and drain its volume. Block outside pools yourself and router swaps break. URC-5 lets a token register its official market on-chain so routers follow it automatically.
Tenev told analysts he wants assets on his chain "fully programmable just like software." Programmable tokens need pool rules routers obey, and I don't think Wednesday's timing was an accident.
Robinhood backed Standard's rule 10 days after PR #20 merged.
All I can say is you're not bullish enough.

Robinhood Chain made more net profit in 120 days than Optimism made in 5 years.
All-time net sequencer profit across Ethereum Layer 2s:
- Base (Coinbase, 3.2 yrs): $196.5M
- Arbitrum One (5.2 yrs): $76.7M
- Robinhood Chain (120 days): $42.7M
- OP Mainnet (5.0 yrs): $32.2M
- ZKsync Era (3.7 yrs): $30.4M
- Starknet (4.4 yrs): $19.8M
Out of $47.6M in gas fees:
- Robinhood paid ~$85K (<0.2%) to Ethereum L1
- $4.75M to Arbitrum DAO
- and kept $42.7M (89.8% margin).
Crypto L2s burned billions in airdrops to rent users. Today, #1 and #2 in monthly L2 profit are Coinbase and Robinhood.

Robinhood Chain just hit 120 days live with $122.5B in trading volume.
Yesterday's Q3 report showed in-app crypto fees down 55% YoY, and a screenshot of 16 bleeding memecoins went viral calling the chain dead.
So I pulled all 1,407 tokens since July 1 mainnet and filtered out every fake one-sided pool:
1/ Daily volume cooled from September's $3.67B mania to $605M today, but $1.14B still sits in DeFi and apps have collected $925.6M in fees.
2/ That viral "downfall" chart left out the biggest day-one meme on the chain. Cash Cat did $2.75B in volume and still holds a $101.5M market cap, behind launchpad leader Pons ($4.81B volume, $200.8M in fees).
3/ NVIDIA stock ($2.77B) beat Cash Cat in total volume on just $18.8M of on-chain supply (147x turnover), and S&P 500 hit a new $114M daily high today. Retail also traded $1.39B of unlisted SpaceX around the clock.
4/ Wildest behavior in the pool data: degens skipped stablecoins and paired memes straight against US stocks, led by $187M in Artificial Inu / NVIDIA and $81.4M in Boner Coin / Hims & Hers.
Give retail 24/7 stocks and they pair them with dog coins.

9 of the world's 10 biggest debtors owe most of the money to themselves.
US federal debt hit $40.53T this week, so I mapped who holds the top 10:
- US gross government debt ($41.39T) is nearly 2x China ($22.49T) and 5x Japan ($8.66T)
- China is down to 1.45% ($591B) of US debt
- The Fed ($4.57T) holds more than Japan, the UK, and China combined
- Bank of Japan owns 46.7% of Japan's bonds at 199.4% of GDP
- France (54% foreign) is the only foreign-majority debtor in the top 10.
