“This spring, the U.S. military faced a similar dilemma in the Middle East. According to a Reuters report that cited Pentagon documents, U.S. forces used Starshield to pilot their drones for strikes against Iran. When SpaceX found out, it raised the price for Starshield service in that region from roughly $5,000 per terminal per month to $25,000. The Pentagon agreed to pay. In Ukraine, Musk could be attempting a similar upsell.” theatlantic.com/national-sec…

In 2024 I pointed out that he still had of his old RT appearances on his ig, so he blocked me and quietly removed them. Trust is earned through character and accountability. He shows none.
A subject-ignorant grifter and material plagiarist is being caught and is attacking @KyivIndependent for pointing out he stole from them. I really hope that those who keep inviting the grifter instead of proper journalists to their TV channels will take note.

The person overseeing the U.S. side of the plan to evacuate Oleshky is Marc Beckman, a private adviser to Melania Trump (his official bio lists his title as “Exclusive Senior Advisor.”) He is also one of the producers of Melania, a documentary about the First Lady. Marc Beckman’s background is in marketing, media and cultural projects. He is the founder of the advertising agency DMA United, which works with well-known brands in the fashion, entertainment, and sports industries. His portfolio does not include direct experience in diplomacy, politics, or humanitarian operations. He is neither a U.S. government official nor a staff member of the Office of the First Lady. However, he has had a longstanding professional relationship with Melania Trump, working with her on business and media projects, including a 2026 documentary sponsored by Amazon. As for Oleshky, my understanding is that U.S. officials do not currently plan to take part directly in the evacuation on the ground. The American side is expected to be represented by a Newsmax crew. I wish the journalists involved strength and safety for the days ahead. What we’re about to witness in the coming days is one of the most complex humanitarian operations since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. And on the U.S. side, the effort is being coordinated by a private adviser to Melania Trump and the producer of her film.

Yuri Ushakov is an old-school diplomat. He spent a decade as Russia's ambassador in Washington and has been Putin's foreign policy aide since 2012. He chooses his words with care. Western media quote him as saying "we need to talk with Europe" and read it as Moscow reaching out to Europe. However, there is a catch. There is no "we" in the original. Here is what he actually said. He was asked why Washington can't simply dictate peace terms to Kyiv. Ushakov answered that after Anchorage it looked like Washington could. It didn't work, because Europe backs Kyiv. So it is necessary to talk "not only with Kyiv, but also with Europe." Any Russian speaker understands who this impersonal "it is necessary" is addressed to. Moscow is not talking to Kyiv right now. Washington is. And Washington's "talking" to Kyiv means pressure. Ushakov's message to Washington: you pressure Kyiv, now pressure Europe too, or you won't get Kyiv to accept the terms. He put it in an impersonal form so Washington doesn't feel it is taking orders from Moscow. That is how professional diplomats speak. So Russia's position stays exactly where it was. Moscow still wants Washington to force its terms on Kyiv, and now on Europe as well.

Russian recruitment is becoming increasingly coercive, but it is coercion with plausible deniability for the Kremlin: Local officials and private agents are doing the "dirty work" to fulfil their quotas.

1/ After most Western journalists had to leave Russia in 2022, the country became a terra incognita. It is hard to get credible information out of it, let alone get Russians on camera speaking frankly about what they think. 🧵
