Some interesting quotes: "The current models are an almost endless gold mine of insight into both how to build AI well and what can sometimes go wrong with it if it isn’t built well."
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. You can read the full post here: darioamodei.com/post/we-must…

This feels like a seriously under-baked part of the essay, hopefully there are better ideas internally: "Y might be whatever is required to make it very unlikely that the model has a propensity to break out of its environment and take over a large number of computers."

most people I know who have made the most “meditative progress” have watched an absurd amount of dharma talks on youtube. Even though they’re really all repeating the same ten points, the thousand and first hour of hearing it seems to have benefit over the thousandth hour

Materialists in shambles…
Here it is - the official, revised, peer-reviewed version of my Platonic Space paper. mdpi.com/2409-9287/11/5/161 Of all the many unpopular positions I’ve taken over the decades - bitter controversies around the origin of left-right asymmetry in embryogenesis, bioelectricity and genetics, diverse intelligence, etc., this one has by far generated the most pushback: serious (grateful for those!) and energetic attempts to move me to other views, pleas to just drop it and not talk about it (for several different reasons), nasty emails and accusations, impacts on reviews of papers that have nothing to do with this, etc. Kind of amazing to me how incendiary this is. What can I say... Our job is to call it as we see it, and right now for me, this is it. Apologies to collaborators and colleagues for any shrapnel! Time will tell if this pans out or not; I've placed my bets. And btw, if you think this stuff is weird and uncomfortable, just wait… There’s much more on the way. The knob turns slowly but as long as the data keep coming, I'm going to say what I think it all means and follow it to the next steps it enables. Buckle up!

this is why ai video will never be a big thing in film. there are just no stakes in an artificially generated shot. a great shot has to cost you something creatively or reputationally. proper in-camera work is a time capsule of something that actually happened. with ai, there's no meta story around the effort to get the shot, nor the borrowed history of the actors / subjects. the same gap will emerge in art, architecture, fashion, graphic design etc
YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING, a documentary by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. Featuring Elizabeth Holmes. Only in theaters this October.

after having burnt twice through my Pro limits using Astra exclusively, I can say that I don't feel the AGI the biggest issue is that its still not opinionated and lacks taste. it doesn't really know what to do, so it just does whatever and you end up wasting time and tokens. also I don't believe the rumors that it's 10T+. If it is, then scaling laws are truly cooked. My divine impeccable vibes, which work 1 out of 7 times, tell me that it's 6-8T. overall it's still just a code monkey. although a slightly larger one and the best we have. I would like to refer you to one of my articles: LLMs aren't AGI, but it doesn't matter (we are taking off anyway)

20. We are often scared of the consequences of revealing who we actually are or what we actually think. But whatever that “consequence” is also happens to be a direct path to the life where we are accepted and loved for who we are.

Imagine what you would do if you knew you couldn’t lose the game in the short or medium term. If you had so much leverage that you could take the big swing. Many things make more sense when you look at them through the lens of inevitability and work backwards. No one believes in inevitability, of course. But if you did, you might act differently.

“emotion is the conduit through which intuition flows”
Highly intelligent outlier men often have an underdeveloped Anima which, if unlocked, will revolutionise their genius into something near incomprehensible. Outlier cognition is not merely a gift, but a symptom of psychic survival. More often than not, these men have had traumatic, asymmetrical, or neglectful relationships with their mother - causing severe psychic wounding to their nervous system regulation and a tectonic fracture in their connection with the Anima - the feminine dimension of the psyche, the bridge to unconscious wisdom - the place between intellect and instinct, between ego and soul, between who they had to be and who they truly are. This stunts emotional undercurrents, resulting in near-total suppression of intuition, for emotion is the conduit through which intuition flows - and intuition is a felt-sense, anchored in subconscious somatic gut–brain axis intelligence.

I’m increasingly convinced that one can go 10x faster in life and projects without a corresponding increase in stress if one decides quickly and reflects regularly.

Courage is the master of the virtues, because it makes the practice of all the others possible.
When Bulgakov says the worst vice is cowardice it’s because he knows it’s the vice that—in domino effect fashion—unravels a person
