📌 An interesting discussion today at the @CypForum on “Europe’s Digital Sovereignty: Building Strategic Self-Reliance in Technology and Infrastructure.”
Digital sovereignty does not mean technological isolation. And it is not about producing everything in Europe. It is about ensuring that Europe can protect its data, secure its infrastructure, choose between providers and maintain essential services under pressure. Reducing strategic dependencies while staying open to innovation, competition and trusted partnerships. This was also the balance expressed by the Cyprus Presidency’s motto: “An Autonomous Union, Open to the World.”
For Cyprus, that means building capacity where it matters, while actively participating in European technology ecosystems and global networks. The new AI Strategy underway highlights that the Cyprus model should not be to reproduce or own every layer of the AI stack. We need to control the critical layers, connect to European scale and ensure that no single supplier or architecture can remove our freedom of action.

👉 Η προστασία των πολιτών και η ενίσχυση της ανθεκτικότητας των τοπικών κοινωνιών απέναντι στον κίνδυνο των πυρκαγιών είναι μια συλλογική προσπάθεια, στην οποία η συνεργασία μπορεί να πολλαπλασιάσει το αποτέλεσμα.
👉 Χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα του οφέλους που μπορεί να έχει για τους πολίτες η ουσιαστική σύμπραξη ιδιωτικού και δημόσιου τομέα, αποτελεί η συνεργασία του Υπουργείου Εσωτερικών, της Ένωσης Κοινοτήτων Κύπρου και της #TechIsland, για την πλήρη κάλυψη του κόστους προμήθειας πυροσβεστικών οχημάτων σε 4⃣5⃣ Κοινότητες.
🎯 Με την αυξημένη κρατική χορηγία από 50% σε 80% και τη συνεισφορά €450.000 από την ιδιωτική πρωτοβουλία του δικτύου της TechIsland, στόχος είναι πρωτίστως η ενίσχυση της επιχειρησιακής ετοιμότητας και η καλύτερη προετοιμασία των Κοινοτήτων σε περιστατικά πυρκαγιών.

👉 Η πρωτοβουλία TechIsland Wildfire Initiative αποδεικνύει στην πράξη τι μπορούμε να πετύχουμε όταν η Πολιτεία, η Τοπική Αυτοδιοίκηση και ο ιδιωτικός τομέας ενώνουν δυνάμεις για έναν κοινό σκοπό.
👉 Ως Κυβέρνηση αυξήσαμε τη χορηγία για την αγορά μικρών πυροσβεστικών οχημάτων από το 50% στο 80%, ενώ η TechIsland καλύπτει το υπόλοιπο 20% για 45 Κοινότητες, ώστε να αποκτήσουν τα οχήματα χωρίς καμία οικονομική επιβάρυνση.
👉 Η έγκαιρη πρώτη ανταπόκριση μπορεί να αποτρέψει την εξάπλωση μιας πυρκαγιάς και να προστατεύσει ανθρώπινες ζωές, περιουσίες και το φυσικό μας περιβάλλον.

The 2025 wildfires burned 1milm² of forest in Souni. Uncleared debris near homes posed a serious risk for this summer, so as part of the TechIsland Wildfire Initiative, we collected branches and processed into mulch, reused on-site to support the forest's recovery.
