Sony says you don’t actually “own” your digital PlayStation games.
In a California federal court filing on August 21, Sony defended its PlayStation Store practices, arguing that buyers receive revocable licenses, not ownership of the games they purchase.
The case stems from a class-action lawsuit alleging that PlayStation’s “Buy” and “Purchase” buttons are misleading under a 2025 California law requiring clearer disclosures for digital goods.
Sony’s response reportedly points to existing fine print and argues that users already understand the nature of digital purchases.
But this highlights a bigger issue with digital gaming:
💿 Physical disc: You own the copy.
☁️ Digital game: You’re effectively licensing access.
And if that license can be revoked, what does “buy” really mean? 🤔
The debate over digital ownership vs. digital licensing just got a lot more serious. 🎮

Sony has now introduced an anti-harassment policy that explicitly threatens consequences against customers they determine have crossed the line including restricting or terminating support and potentially involving lawyers or law enforcement.
This is an indirect threat. Guys, they’re literally threatening us now.
I won’t back down. I’ll keep criticizing them and telling them to go fuck themselves every single fucking day.
Instead of asking why customers are this fucking angry, why trust is collapsing and why people are turning against PlayStation, Sony’s response is to publish a policy telling those customers what could happen if THEY go too far.
You don’t get to piss off your customers and then act shocked when they get loud.
Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
Sooner or later, you’ll realize the damage you’ve caused.
