Bryan Cranston pays tribute to RJ Mitte “I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on 'Breaking Bad' has died. I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm. Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never – ever – allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination" “Always listening to the advice that his TV parents (Anna Gunn and myself) gave him – but being a teenager, sometimes mischievously ignoring the counsel in order to learn the hard way… He was one of the stars of a hit TV show – but still a kid. That kid was pretty raw when we started shooting the pilot in February of 2007, but little by little we watched him grow into a really fine actor. He parlayed his experience on the show to be a vocal advocate for performers with disabilities, and was the head of a philanthropic organization with a focus on helping the disabled community. All that promise and potential now is such a loss" “It is especially devastating to hear that he took his own life,” he wrote. “Why? We were texting each other just a few weeks ago – figuring out when we could meet for lunch. I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future… But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on 'Breaking Bad' dimmed… I’ll miss you, son"

“Macarena (Bayside Boys Remix)” is the 1995 remix of Los del Río's 1993 hit "Macarena." By adding English verses performed by Carla Vanessa and Carla María, the remix transformed the Spanish dance track into a global phenomenon. It spent 14 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, reached #2 in the UK and topped the charts in more than a dozen countries, becoming one of the biggest-selling singles of all time with over 11 million copies sold worldwide. The song's simple, instantly recognizable dance became a worldwide craze, performed everywhere from weddings and sporting events to political rallies and the 1996 Olympic Games. Although many people associate the song with the Bayside Boys, Los del Río initially disliked the remix.

“There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” is one of The Smiths’ most iconic tracks, from The Queen Is Dead (1986). It was never released as a single while the band was active. Rough Trade’s Geoff Travis wanted it as the comeback single but Johnny Marr insisted on “Bigmouth Strikes Again” instead. Marr later explained that he liked each album to contain one song everyone said should have been a single, but wasn’t. On the first album that was “Reel Around the Fountain”, on The Queen Is Dead it was this one. It finally received an official UK single release on 12 October 1992, five years after the band split, to promote the compilation …Best II and reached No. 25. Even so, it became an absolute classic: in 2014 NME ranked it the 12th-greatest song of all time.

“I Will Always Love You” is Whitney Houston’s 1992 recording for the soundtrack of The Bodyguard. Originally written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973 as a heartfelt farewell to her mentor Porter Wagoner, Houston transformed the gentle country ballad into one of the biggest hits in music history. The sweeping power ballad spent a then-record 14 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the charts in more than 20 countries and won the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Its breathtaking vocal performance helped make The Bodyguard the best-selling soundtrack album of all time, while the single became one of the best-selling singles by a female artist in history. Whitney originally intended to record Jimmy Ruffin’s "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" for the film's climax, but switched to Parton's song after co-star Kevin Costner suggested it, having been inspired by Linda Ronstadt's 1975 cover. Dolly Parton later recalled that when she first heard Whitney's version on the car radio, she was so overwhelmed by the vocal performance that she had to pull over. Decades later it remains Whitney Houston's signature song and one of the most celebrated vocal performances ever recorded.

“Who Are You” was inspired by an infamous night in Pete Townshend's life. After spending the evening drinking with members of the Sex Pistols, Townshend eventually ended up in a doorway, where police found him. The encounter reportedly inspired the question that became the song's title: “Who are you?” The experience, combined with Townshend's reflections on identity, fame, and the changing music scene, became the foundation for one of The Who's most recognisable songs. Tha track was released in 1978 as the title track and lead single from The Who's eighth studio album. It reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 7 in Canada, becoming one of the band's biggest North American hits. It was the final studio album released by The Who before drummer Keith Moon's death in September 1978. Decades later the song gained a new generation of listeners when it became the iconic opening theme of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 2006, Roger Daltrey even guest-starred in the series' seventh-season episode “Living Legend,” which featured numerous references to The Who.

In April 2026, "Mr. Brightside" became the first song in history to reach 500 weeks on the UK Official Singles Chart. It had previously earned a Guinness World Record in 2024 for the most cumulative weeks on the UK Singles Chart by a group, and later also became the first song ever to reach the 500-week milestone. The craziest part? Despite all those records the track never reached #1, peaking at #10 in 2004. Thanks to its extraordinary longevity (driven largely by streaming), it has become the UK's biggest single never to reach #1, turning an initial Top 10 hit into one of the most successful songs in British chart history.

“Linger” was written by Dolores O’Riordan and Noel Hogan for The Cranberries’ 1993 debut, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? Hogan had the four-chord idea before Dolores joined the band. When she auditioned they gave her a cassette, she came back the next week with the melody and the lyric. Released on February 1993 as the second single, it only took off after a reissue in early 1994. It reached No. 3 in Ireland, No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 14 in the UK. Produced by Stephen Street, it became the band’s first major hit.

“House of the Rising Sun” is a traditional American folk ballad whose exact origins are uncertain, though it was circulating by the early 1900s. Inspired by Bob Dylan’s 1962 recording (itself based on Dave Van Ronk’s arrangement), The Animals turned it into an electric rock song in 1964. Released as a single, it spent one week at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1964 and three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the first British Invasion No. 1 in the United States that was not an original composition, and is often cited as the first folk-rock hit.

Because of its graphic depictions of violence, police brutality, and racial injustice, the "Prison Version" of "They Don't Care About Us"received limited television airplay, while the version filmed in Brazil became the definitive release seen by most audiences. It was the first time Michael Jackson released two official music videos for the same song, with both directed by Spike Lee.

“Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” was recorded while ABBA were preparing for their major North American and European tour. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus were looking for a new song during this period, and they were influenced by the contemporary disco sound of Donna Summer, particularly her hit “Hot Stuff.” The result became one of ABBA's most enduring dance-pop recordings, driven by Benny's synthesizers and Agnetha Fältskog's dramatic lead vocal. Released in October 1979, “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” became a major international hit, reaching No. 1 in countries including Belgium, France, Ireland and Switzerland, while peaking at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart. Decades later, the song's instantly recognisable melody gained a new generation of listeners when Madonna used it in her 2005 hit “Hung Up,” with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus receiving songwriting credits on the track.
