more housing than San Francisco builds in one year
An absolutely massive move on housing:
@NYCHousing is demolishing its offices at 100 Gold St., an outdated building from the 1960s, and turning it into *4,000* units of housing. 1,000 units will be permanently affordable.
This is more new housing than some entire cities build in a year.
Project will also include a new senior center, a 40k sq ft gym open to the public, and lots of public realm improvements around the site. HPD will get a new home in a separate, modern building.
This is the kind of big, bold project we need much more of.
While SF’s east side booms, the west stagnates. It’s time to change that sfstandard.com/opinion/2026/… via @sfstandard

thank you to @annewoj23 and @23andMe for having me visit!
Leading with science means starting with a story, said journalist @tgoetz during a fireside chat with @annewoj23. He spoke about his podcast Drug Story, how to make science accessible for audiences, and how 23andMe's work continues to help people better understand genomics.

Thomas Goetz (@tgoetz), creator of the Drug Story podcast, explains how EpiPen built a moat: train school nurses and teachers on one device, and the “similar but different” competitor becomes harder to adopt.

Mike Pesca kept me on my toes! He is super informed about medicine, and this was a great conversation (part 1!)
Today on the Gist: Thomas Goetz (@tgoetz) joins the show to discuss his new podcast Drug Story, starting with the chain from FDR’s death to cholesterol science, statins, and the cold math behind drug effectiveness. The conversation moves through Lipitor and EpiPens to show how evolving medical knowledge, good intentions, and pharmaceutical incentives can quietly reshape public health at massive scale. Plus, Trump is perhaps rethinking his Minnesota deployments, as the fire trucks exit. In the spiel a look at why the word “pretext” keeps surfacing in descriptions of Trump administration ICE actions, especially in Minnesota. What the term actually means, why it is often misapplied, and what its ubiquity reveals about how this administration justifies force before retreating.

Now this is cool: Apple selected Drug Story as a featured New Show!
No idea exactly how this happens, but I expect it helps that so many folks have given Drug Story a generous 5 star rating at Apple Podcasts. (HINT, HINT)
