One of the most important lessons I’ve learned this year, as simple as it sounds, is the importance of communication.
You’d be surprised how wrong your assumptions can be about what others know, how well-aligned you think you are, or how obvious you believe certain things should be, until you actually have a conversation with the other person.
This applies to so many areas of life: work, friendships, family, and relationships.
I still remember receiving my first salary after moving to Germany. The company that brought me over had offered me a relocation bonus, and I had also negotiated a joining bonus. They told me both bonuses would be paid alongside my first month’s salary.
So naturally, I was expecting a huge amount of money. I had already made a list of gadgets and other things I was going to buy.
Then payday came, and I was confused. m, it didn’t feel like what I had been expecting. I couldn’t even tell if they had paid my full salary and included any of the bonuses.
I knew the amount was probably higher than my regular monthly salary, but I had no idea how much of it was actually my salary and how much came from the bonuses.
I had to wait until the following month to find out what my actual take-home salary was.
When the second salary came in, everything finally made sense.
That was how I learned that even relocation and joining bonuses are taxed in Germany.
The type of engineer who only waits to be assigned a ticket, works on it and requests code review does not have a future in software engineering.
This is not because AI has replaced them, but because expectations have changed. They changed long before agentic coding became commonplace.
The day I finally create @Cloudflare support ticket has come, the issue itself isn’t surprising. I imagine there aren’t many companies in Nigeria using their SFU/TURN, so it makes sense that this issue had remained unresolved for some days now.
If you're like me, using a Logitech mouse on a Mac and hating the choppy scrolling, you probably want smooth scrolling. I vibe-coded this 7 months ago.
Today I also got tired of opening Raycast just for app shortcuts, especially now that it's packed with AI features I don't use, so I added app shortcuts to the utility itself.

Every now and then, I come across people who swear certain things aren't possible. I've noticed they rarely grow exponentially, because they box themselves in. I'm not saying this particular post is true, other than the title, I did not even read and it might be a made up story, but people are doing this. If you doubt it, go look and you'll find them. Get inspired and learn. It's the only way to grow, and even if you don't achieve what they did, you'll gain a lot along the way.

Earlier this year I was interviewing a dev for an AI Engineer position. Prior to the call, I had asked him to make sure he had Docker installed. When he shared his screen and I saw that he uses Windows, I wasn't impressed, but again, I tried my best not to let that affect my judgement. I hinted that he should use Docker so he could spin up dependencies like Langfuse for proper observability, but he insisted on going bare metal. I ended up being right. Sometimes little things like this give some sort of impression.

I feel for non-technical founders who don’t have a technical co-founder.
I know the amount of work I put into the things I ship, and I understand how hard it is to build something solid and reliable.
There are days I’m up until 4am shipping fixes, pushing new updates, or dealing with issues that simply cannot wait.
Finding a developer who will consistently have that same level of ownership and dedication to your product is not common.
Sometimes it’s not even about how good the developer is. There’s just a different level of commitment that comes with knowing the product is yours and its success or failure rests on you.

She's given you a blueprint. Go get the same MBA she did and apply for the same position. Advise your unhoused and jobless friends and family to do the same. Wishing y'all the best in your pursuit of fulfillment.
I’ve had a crazy year so far. Thanks to LLMs, I can almost say that I have pushed more code this year than I have in the last 15 years of my coding life.
I haven’t missed a single day of commits this year. Even on the day I thought I was going to die from stomach pain, I still somehow squeezed out like 60 commits. 😂
