Pretty cool here. The University of Utah is where I got both my degrees. Loved my time there so much. My Dad and Morgan Scalleys mom are actually first cousins and were really close growing up but he has no clue who I am. lol. While I was at the U, I served in a position at the LDS institute that put me in some positions on campus where I was sorta known as “the institute guy”. And that led to some awkward interactions like this one- One year, right before the big game, a classmate was talking about how much he hated BYU…. How much he hated what they stood for….. and how he hated their fans and why. It was awkward because I felt what he was really saying. He hated the church - and its members - and he he knew I got the message. I also was rooting for Utah and I absolutely wanted to see BYU lose other games too… but as an active Latter Day Saint, I really struggled with how to handle these situations where people were openly hateful. Especially because as a believing Latter Day Saint, I believe we’re all children of God, and so I literally do not hate anyone. The rivalry is still fun for me. But whenever people use it or any BYU event to look down at members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it’s rough for many of us. “f*** the Mormons” has somehow become almost common at sporting events. I don’t understand how, because if it was literally any other group, we would stand with that group against the hate. Even those we vehemently disagree with, we do not hate. Seeing Morgan and Kilani after a hard fought game embrace like this, to me, is a reminder of how important it is to follow the Savior’s council to LOVE OUR ENEMIES. Grateful for their example here. ❤️❤️❤️
Pretty cool to see how much BYU’s Kalani Sitake and Utah’s Morgan Scalley respect each other after yet another awesome Holy War. Both played in the rivalry and both have coached in it for years. Two guys who know how much this means to the Beehive State. College football rocks

What really happened here? Luka pandered to the ref by agreeing w her that the fan threw the ball too hard. Then the two of their energy built on each other until the man was removed which was obviously a ridiculously bad decision and everyone knows it. Credit to the man. He had every right to pitch a fit. But shame on Luka who continues to be the most petulant superstar ever. Brilliant but unwatchable.
So now we are ejecting fans from stadiums because they toss the ball back to the refs? The NBA is turning into the WNBA!

I had a feeling about this one. Big night for Steph. Per @CardLadder Last night this Steph Silo Super Patch 1/1voitsild nearly all but one other Steph patch auto non rookie of all time (doesn’t include Logoman cards or tags) when it sold @altxyzofficial for $268,361 The only higher such card was Steph’s 2013 Flawless Gold PSA 10 10AU which moved in August for $300,000
They made a card where the player is in front of the patch material? 😳 Yup and not only was it one of the longest standing inserts of the era - for Steph Curry, it’s one of his best game used patch autos ever.

I would trade Darryn Peterson for Yaxel right now.

Truth.
I can’t believe how much I hate watching the Jazz play offense. They had more flow than this when they were trying to lose. Everything is Keyonte off the dribble. They’re spamming the Lauri slip action because nothing else works and half the team feels afraid to shoot.

Bad news Jazz fans - Our team is legitimately bad. They’re not good offensively or defensively. Will Hardy is bad - doesn’t make adjustments and seems to be unraveling. Keyonte doesn’t know how to get other people involved and seems like a more natural shooting guard. Peterson looks mediocre at best - and doesn’t have top end athletic that we were told he would have. You passed on the best player in the draft even tho your one of the guys on your scouting team last year is his dad. You sent away your first round pick this year for a guy who can’t rebound, is overpaid, and is never healthy. You’re hopeful that a guy who was almost out of the league will get healthy and be your savior on both offense and defense. And you traded the defensive center you desperately need, but there is a massive shortage of in the league to a team w Luka Doncic for draft picks. After 4 years of tanking you have two lottery picks left to show for it because the first two were dead awful. This is your team. Enjoy it. Wait for the bigs to get healthy. Enjoy the losing and the bickering that comes along with it. And remember, this is what you get for 4 years of tanking.

I wanted to get in better shape so about 5 months ago, I decided to run a marathon (in 4 months time). But before I got too far into my training, I had my body fat percentage tested at the Bodpod - it came back at 31.5% Then, for the next 4 months I ate healthier and ran an avg of close to 20 miles a week with about 10 runs of 10 miles of more. I ended up running both the Big Cottonwood and St George marathons - the first marathons I had ran in 14 years. My times weren’t up to my expectations (4:31 and 4:46) but given that I prepared for them in less than 4 months, I still felt like that was a massive accomplishment. Then it came time to test my body fat again.

I knew when I went in that I had lost some weight (about 4 pounds), and because of all the running I was excited to see the change in fat/non fat content. When the tech looked at the results, he paused with a look of confusion. Although he knew how much running I’d done over the last 4 months, he was shocked to see that my fat content had in fact NOT CHANGED at all. And instead the 4 pounds I had lost had been all non-fat (likely muscle).

How could I lose muscle while getting in soooo much better shape over the previous months? I was frustrated. But I’m back on the fitness wagon and watching my eating more carefully. Im also still running - because I love what it does for me outside of weight loss - but I’ve changed my running too. For one of my two weekly runs, I’m doing something I’ve never done before. I’m sprinting in internals. 50-100 yard sprints followed by 40-75 yard walks. I do this continually for about 3 miles. I’ve only done it twice so far and I’ll tell you what I’ve noticed…. It’s way harder than I expected. I’m immediately out of breath and my heart is beating hard after the first sprint. Quads and triceps are sore. Like way sorer than marathon training. It’s a change of pace. And my hope is that it strengthens me and helps me lose some fat. I want to lose the fat to be healthier. But also, I’m getting older and I if I’m ever going to dunk again, this is my chance.

This was a fun segment but they missed the mark entirely. You can’t blame the 82 game schedule when you’re 7 games in. And ignoring that when we’re at the beginning of the season is being done here to fit their narrative.
Bill Simmons blasts Adam Silver for putting greed before player health “You're ruining your players and you're making your sport worse, and you're hurting careers and you're shortening careers…I think it's like actual negligence and greed” (@TheNBABase)

The reason for the increase in injuries is mostly the games increased obsession with speed and length. As the NBA has moved to a quicker pace - the bouncy/long type players have become the archetype and they have ALWAYS been more likely to get injured.
