The CDCP has established a historic opportunity to improve oral health in Canada. As we look to the future, we must ensure the program does more than just pay for treatment. It should help Canadians prevent disease, maintain oral health, and improve their quality of life. That is where dental hygienists can make the greatest contribution.
The CDCP is creating new opportunities to improve oral health in Canada. @theCDHA supports today's paper: From Coverage to Care: An Evidence-Informed Assessment of the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), released by @CdnDentalAssoc but believes the next step is strengthening prevention so more Canadians can prevent disease, maintain oral health, and improve quality of life. We hope you had a meaningful day of reflection yesterday and learned something from our National Truth and Reconciliation Day posts. Reconciliation is not a single action. It is an ongoing responsibility grounded in learning, reflection and meaningful action.
@theCDHA's path forward includes supporting equitable access to oral health care, strengthening relationships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, integrating Indigenous perspectives into professional learning, and supporting Indigenous-led dental hygiene education.
Join us in our journey.
Moving from learning to practice requires ongoing education and reflection.
@theCDHA continues to share Indigenous-led perspectives and resources to help dental hygienists strengthen their understanding and practice, including learning opportunities on cultural safety, trauma-informed oral health care, respectful communication and inclusive practice.

Culturally safe dental hygiene care requires ongoing learning, reflection and relationship building.
By recognizing power imbalances, reflecting on personal and systemic biases, and using trauma-informed approaches, dental hygienists can help foster care built on trust and respect. These practices support safer, more compassionate and effective care for First Nations, Inuit and Métis clients.

Equitable access to oral health care remains a challenge for many First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. Barriers can include limited access to care in rural and remote communities, infrastructure gaps, food insecurity, and systemic inequities shaped by colonial policies.
Dental hygienists have an opportunity to deepen their understanding of these barriers and contribute to culturally safe, respectful and equitable oral health care.

Tomorrow is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Land acknowledgements are one step towards meaningful reconciliation, but acknowledgement alone is not enough. It must be supported by ongoing action, learning and relationship building with First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples and communities.
@theCDHA encourages everyone to take time tomorrow to learn about and acknowledge the traditional caretakers of the lands and territories where they live and practise.
