There's a gap between the skills students think employers want and the skills recruiters actually prioritize. Students name time management, work ethic, and communication. Recruiters name critical thinking, work ethic, and communication. Two of three overlap, but the difference is a telling one: critical thinking. However, the takeaway isn't that students can't think critically. Most can. What many haven't learned is how to translate that capability into the language hiring managers understand. If you're a student, or you advise one, here's a practical starting point. Take any experience and describe it in three parts: the challenge, the specific action, and the outcome.
