Thank you Rinaldo and team for a wonderful week of science! Everyone, give @QuantumMinions a follow🤩 #SUPERquantum #Quantour #QTorch @the_sciencetalk Make sure to follow Under the Microscope on Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts - open.spotify.com/show/0joF8a…
😎Stressed for Quantum😎 Please welcome this week's curator: Rinlado Trotta @QuantumMinions of @SapienzaRoma Want to know why Rinaldo insists on stressing the Quantum dots?Answer in video: youtu.be/A-LxrvuNwm8 @the_ScienceTalk @mysci_pk #UnderTheMicrosope #QuanTour #QTorch

The clock hits 1 p.m. and the @QuantumMinions head for lunch. Well, to be honest, it is hard to get these people out of the lab, and the process of actually going for lunch can get intricate. But, once outside, it's just smiles in the sunlight!

Lights on! The source is emitting. Giuseppe and Fabrizio couple the signal into single-mode fibers in order to get it to our single-photon detectors.

Since we have our source up and running, let’s play a little bit. In our AttoDry1000 cryostat by attocube systems, we have the possibility of applying a magnetic field up to 6 Teslas!

One technical approach we develop and use is pulling and stretching our samples. Yes, one can do that even with apparently brittle and rigid materials such as the ones we use!

Despite these signals being very weak compared to sunlight (a photon flux 20 orders of magnitude weaker!), we are able to transmit them also during the day using smart geometries and spectral filters.

The process starts with the exfoliator tools: crystals, gels, and, of course, tape! We peel the crystals from the bulk to get the monolayer, which we transfer on the piezoelectric substrate.

Quantum light comes from the 0D-world, true, but…we can take it also from Flatland! Deformations and defects induce quantum emitters in 2D semiconductors, crystals one-layer thick. We place them on piezoelectric actuators, which allow us to tune their energy and brightness.
