Since @gavinortlund Blocked me because he got exposed and can’t own it. I’ll screen shot his response here and send my reply. First of all, our discussions were AFTER that. You didn’t even realize Shoemaker had revised his position on those texts in his newer works. You were still operating from a 2004 book. I brought that to your attention after contacting him myself, and you said you simply wouldn’t use him for that point anymore. Anyone is free to go back and find the exchange. Second, are you being serious right now? The “distinctions” you’re now making are amendments to your original claims. That’s precisely the point! You don’t get to revise your claims after being challenged and then act as though we simply failed to understand them all along. You cited multiple scholars, and Alex called out your misrepresentation of them. Instead of addressing those criticisms, you doubled down on Hurtado as though defending that one citation would answer everything else. It doesn’t. And presenting your amended claims as your position from the beginning doesn’t resolve the problem either. Do you not see how much you’ve shifted the goalposts throughout these dialogues? People challenged your claims and were actually nice about it. You then tell your audience we said things we never said, frame the corrections as attempts to discredit you, and somehow WE are the ones guilty of gross misrepresentation? Sir, before questioning everyone else’s integrity, you need to examine your own handling of these exchanges.

Maybe if you're catholic. Though, today, most are participating in what it means today, and not some abstract origin of what Catholics did. Brother, I know you want to justify it. But its more believable when somebody says they use this day as a way to reach people for Christ rather than appeal to where this originated for a select group (which you're not a part of last i checked). Almsgiving? To who? The kids from your neighborhood who are not in need of candy? Defintion: Almsgiving is the act of donating money, food, goods, or time to people living in poverty or in need, driven by compassion, mercy, or a sense of religious and moral duty. I'm not judging you. I just disagree and since you are posting these things to justify your position on Halloween, I am publicly pushing back based on my view and definitions used. I'm not trying to change your mind. Im writing this for others who may follow you and wonder if there is another way to approach and understand this topic.

You can give these cultural-Christians all the references, such as 2 Cor. 6:14, and the lukewarm will eisegesis them away. The context of all scripture is to reject the world and pursue God. At judgement it will be hilarious to hear them say His judgement is out of context.
