Manifesting a #trilliondollarIRA should be the top priority of every major environmental organization in the United States that is serious about climate change.

The issues are orthogonal. Zoning is the constraint on housing density. Subsidy availability is the constraint on income-restricted affordable housing. Land use reform solves the first but not the second. These programs solve the second but not the first. Both are 100% needed.

Biden’s Climate Law Can’t Die. Wall Street Loves It Too Much. A cynical optimist’s take on the Inflation Reduction Act.
The Inflation Reduction Act is great for investors, and in our imperfect democracy, that just might be the key to its durability. Food for thought from me at @heatmap, and some follow-up morsels below 1 heatmap.news/ideas/ira-ta...

“Reformulating the interests of capital through public investment is a pragmatic and necessary antidote to the inertia of the incumbent fossil fuel industry.”
The IRA’s tax credits are a “bottomless mimosa bar” for the financial market, @theilmatic says:

Revisting "carrots vs sticks" policy debate as US climate policy falters...
IRA will exceed $100b in public spend and $500b in private by year-end, whetting market appetites for clean energy.
For climate policy sticks to work, OTOH, you have to keep beating the donkey. 3
More thoughts from me on the political durability of IRA, and investment-led climate policy, in @heatmap_news today. 4

This may be my last tweet, but I love the US Government Accountability Office.

Exxon CEO tells Trump to chill on climate policy: “I’ve been advising that we have some level of consistency ... policy switching back and forth as political cycles occur and elections happen and administrations change... [is] not good for the economy.” politico.com/news/2024/11/12…
Exxon's CEO warned that rollbacks to U.S. climate policy will make the future "that much more challenging.”
“I don’t think the challenge or the need to address global emissions is going to go away,” he told us. politico.com/news/2024/11/12…

7. Douglass: "The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress." How much endurance have we got? That's what the rest of the world is wondering right now.

This is why there were so many people killed during floods in Valencia, Spain. The local right wing administration had cut the budget weather forecasts and an early warning system, on the excuse that climate change was a hoax. There are now riots calling for their removal.
Oh wow JD hasn't even sworn in and he's already working for #TrumpsBoss!
And so it starts:
JD Vance says US could drop support for NATO if Europe tries to regulate Elon Musk’s platforms independent.co.uk/news/world…
Hand on heart I think it would be good if @elonmusk made a bid for Secretary of Energy.
It's extremely "hardcore" (nuke stockpile security!?), way more than a non-Congressionally authorized advisory bean counter overlapping directly with the Government Accountability Office.
One thing I'm learning from this: "I will implement emergency price controls to prevent gouging" is a much worse political message than "I will lower grocery prices."
And when the press demands "policies," either are satisfactory, an actual policy or an outcome assertion.
#Trumpflation is beginning now, when retailers are stockpiling inventory and repricing in anticipation of #TrumpTariffWars.
The open question is whether Trump will continue incentivizing onshoring manufacturing (chips, batteries), relieving some pain, or just punish consumers.
As Donald Trump readies to return to the Oval Office, U.S. retailers that depend on foreign suppliers are prepared to pass along the cost of his proposed import tariffs to consumers, potentially leading to higher prices for a range of products. cbsn.ws/48Lnwcc
